Brian, this doesn’t have to be illicit. If you rent an apartment near a service center and give Rivian your new address, with a 2018 R1T reservation I imagine you could have your truck pronto.

Justify it by ensuring you qualify for the tax credit by (hopefully) getting your truck by year end.

It's a shame Rivian isn't yet confident enough in its design and build quality to be willing to ship its vehicles far and wide.

They see their service statistics, we don’t.

Sounds complicated
Let's see, I started my trade repurchase for battery recall in 8/21 for my Chevy Bolt ('21 purchased in 7/21) and I am still to this day waiting for delivery. I guess what I'm saying is, Rivian understands the industry and competition.

They might be able to do a thing and not care because it's cheaper to do it this way and dang it, stocks have valuations.

We should make everything like the car buying experience. Need a half gallon of milk? Just log on to the Stony Fields website where you place a 3% deposit on it and they will deliver your milk at some point, maybe.

If Rivian had world class PR skills, many of us would be paying about $15K more for our trucks, or not buying one at all. I’ll take the bad with the good, thanks.

All I want from rivian is a firm delivery window, communicated clearly. I don’t give a cold fart about pricing.
What he said except for the cold fart comment. That must be a Canadian thing.

Here's the problem I see with something like that. You get the apartment, get the truck and then take it home. It breaks, dead 12V battery and it's bricked. Now when you call Rivian they are supposed to come out to an area they said they don't want to service yet because you cheated the system?

It would be one thing if you moved there out of happenstance after getting your car, but that's going to be a tough hill to climb saying you didn't intentionally lie.

I just don’t want Moosetags and CrashMTB to get so despondent they give up on waiting for their Rivians and leave the forum. I like their posts!

Yes, these Rivians are fun to drive, but I’d rather have one where the tonneau works, it doesn’t make squeaky or clicking noises, loud wind sounds, or a tailgate that doesn’t always drop, or bolts falling out of the bottom shield. For those still waiting for delivery, I do think you’ll be extremely happy to have it once they clean things up. I love my R1T, but for $80k it’s been a bit bumpy. I’ve got faith that RJ will make it right and the Riv will thrive! ?

The crazy thing is that WAS a nominal increase, if you look at how much the price of everything has shot up.

the way it was delivered is the kick in the gut.
Also the timing. Many of us felt we should have already taken delivery, based on previous timelines. Being told you have to wait another year+ is hard, but that It comes with a substantial price bump was too much, imo. I’m glad Rivian walked that back. I wish I had put in that second reservation for an R1S. Oh well.

Lots of us are worried because our preorders have been stripped of essentials: Camp kitchen, powered tonneau, frunk outlet, tunnel shuttle, while the Max Pack is MIA.

Our worry is that Rivian won’t restore these, or that when they do restore them the prices will be jacked and we’ll lose our pre-order pricing. Rivian, we imagine, will say these are new designs not subject to the earlier pricing because the earlier pricing was for the discontinued designs.

But what if Rivian plans to restore these features at pre-March pricing even for the new designs? Some have said that CS has confirmed this in part — namely that the Camp Kitchen will be the pre-March price for the new design (for pre-March orders). Maybe it will be the same for the powered tonneau? Maybe the same for a better power outlet in the frunk?

If these redesigns delay preorder holders from making a purchase, that’s good for Rivian, as it pulls to the front of the line payers of full price. Preorder holders may decide to accept delivery of stripped down Rivians and that’s also good for Rivian’s bottom line.

Then, perhaps in mid- or late-2023, preorder holders might be able to accept Rivians with all the bells and whistles for still the reduced price. It’s possible and who knows, maybe even likely. Rivian would benefit on every side: more full price payers now, more pre-March orders selling with less gear (less loss), and more goodwill for the early order folks when the new designs come online.
Rivian has done right with pricing in the past and honored those of us with early orders. I would expect Rivian to do the same with the kitchen, tent, cover, etc ..
So far I have no reason to believe other. Rivian has treated owners fairly so far.

I only just placed my preorder in mid 2021; by then it seemed Rivian had their stuff together and they were still saying max pack would be “among the first“ r1-ses built. That didn’t happen, obviously. And I knew of people with early LE preorders. who were being told july-September for delivery, until It suddenly became 2023. One of those people got a lightning instead but kept their R1S preorder.
