Having a lockable storage inside using a pin like Teslas do was extremely useful... whenever I went to the casinos and brought a couple bands it always went in there. Now not sure where to put it lol.

Regardless having it and not using it is much better than not having it when needed... even if it's only needed once during the life of the car.

I really can't see what's up there that even Teslas don't have that a small glove box couldn't go on there... having an extremely small glove box would be better than nothing

Even after that rant I would rather have the rivian over a tesla any day

Hey Fawn from Tulsa with your BMW convertible, thanks for posting your glove box question. I initially had the same concerns, but my friend @kanundrum now stuffs his center console with used pampers, baby wipes, dirty pacifiers, and noise canceling headphones…this area should more than meet your needs.

I don't get it. What does everyone use a glovebox for? I store the manual, insurance, and registration. All fit under the seat
My drivers underseat has my sunglasses. My passenger seat had my wife’s sunglasses, we shoved our insurance and registration in there, but then it falls out when reaching for the glasses.

Our doors have umbrellas, and usually a pair on winter gloves on my wife’s side. A placard for child pickup on my side along with a utility knife.

My center console has a box of tissues and some baby wipes, and a couple of charge cords since the wireless pad is useless.

If the center console was bigger, I’d throw a box of nitrile gloves in there too. But it doesn’t fit. If I had a cubby somewhere I’d be able to put my hand lotion, antibacterial spray in there..but there isn’t one. So normally I’d put all that in the glovebox, along with a pair of thicker mechanix gloves, ratchet straps, along with my insurance card and registration.

So yea….I’d like a glove box or more storage in general.

Frunk subcompartment has a foldable hand truck, blanket, tarp.

Spare tire well has a spare tire, blankets, I’ve shoved my nitrile gloves in there as well.

Under the rear seat is where everything else goes…which is a pain in the butt to get to when you have 2 car seats on top of it.

Going from the Lightning to the R1T was a challenge for me in terms of interior storage. The one really nice part is the gear tunnel which has ramps and 120v portable winch, but I’d normally have that under the rear seats.

Well for one, when you go to grab your insurance and registration when you get pulled over. Police expect you to go to the glove box. Not under your seat. If you want to get a gun pulled on you, go reach for something unexpected in a place the officer can't see without announcing it during a traffic stop.
Yeah, because no one ever keeps a gun in the glovebox.

Wow you must keep a lot of gloves.

I talked my Dad into a Ford Lightning and we picked it up last night. I will say the overall cabin space and storage is expansive compared to the Rivian. That being said, to @crashmtb point, I really don't need that much stuff in arms reach while driving so I actually prefer the cleanliness of the R1T. I can see where others would like the immense storage of the Lightning but to be honest @Yellow Buddy you lost me when you mentioned ratchet straps in the glove box or center console... literally nobody needs that, lets just all agree to keep our ratchet straps in the gear tunnel in our Patagonia Black Hole duffle bags we keep the other extraction kit stuff in. This is the way.

Ratchet straps suck in the gear tunnel without the slide tray. Maybe for the occasional user, but you get tired of climbing in there for them if the tunnel is empty. When it’s not empty, I usually have my ramps in there, and then they rattle against the metal ramps. That gets old fast and is more annoying than the many complaints on here about suspension squeaks.

Not everyone uses the truck like I do, I unfortunately (or fortunately?) don’t own any Patagonia; but the question was what do you use it for. That’s what I use it for. I threw my straps in the glovebox of my Ridgeline. I threw them in the glovebox in the Lightning. I don’t have a good place to throw them or my box of nitrile gloves in the R1T.

I could make due if I had a larger center console, or if I didn’t have car seats/booster. I’d throw them under the rear seats. But for my current situation, I very much miss a glovebox.

Am I the only one with a chuckle every time someone says the (full size) Ford Lightening is roomier and has more internal storage than the (mid size) R1T….

where do you keep your extra 1911?
Exactly! And extra mags.

or: bandaids, sunglasses, extra napkins, device charging cables, etc.
Yes- I suppose that could all go under the seat, but I wanted both.

When I’m pulled over and asked for registration, I answer with something like “it’s just in the glove compartment/my pocket/under the seat/etc”. Make it very clear why my next movement is. Haven’t been shot or tasered yet!

That's because you are Canadian and the government already took away any gun that would fit under the seat. ;)

R1T: why no glove compartment?
This would be the perfect place to have secured storage within the vehicle.

R1S: does the SUV have a glove compartment?

I hope so! In our vehicles, use of the center armrest is usually the drivers prerogative, and the passenger gets the glove department for their stored items.
I'm with you! I never realized how much I needed/used my glove compartment before. And I don't need it in the same space as usual, but I do need MORE storage w/in reach of the driver/passenger. There is a lot of storage in the truck, just not w/in reach :(
