The fact that there are RGB interior accent lights that owners are unable to control seems to foreshadow a pay to play / subscription feature. Not a fan of this approach to monetizing features
They did not monetize this holiday freebie, why do you automatically go to the worst outcome?

I'm so tired of this cancel culture bullshit.
Me too. So Rivian - stop adding features people like only to take them away. Put back the halloween features including the wolf and owl, and let people decide which features they use.

I am in Montana for much of the rutting season...I'd definitely turn the sound on for bugling elk mode haha
It'd be neat to see what an elk would do to an R1 it thinks is a competing bull

If you put a quarter in the air vents does it turn halloween mode back on?

It's a fun thing for one day, lighten up.

There will almost certainly be monetized features in the future, but for things like connectivity or advanced driver assist features. Things either have reoccurring cost to them or add liability.

But, customized interior lights is likely not one of them.

SW features that add capabilities are things that really make users happy. It's like a small gift, and the night before a big update is like the night before Christmas.

So I could see them adding customized lights in the future like Camp Mode added the ability to turn on lights in the mirror for camp lights.

They also might reserve the capability for special themes like the Halloween one.

Yeah... I really don't think that this is gonna be the model. Maybe I'm naive but I don't think that this is Rivian's game plan. I feel like part of the reason they are avoiding Apple car Play is to avoid that pay as you go type ecosystem. Nobody want this to be like BMW where you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to enable your seat warmers. But I could be completely wrong...

Why have RGB accent lighting hardware from day 1, limit color to white, and keep the feature a secret? Much less expensive vehicles have had user adjustable color settings for years. To make the matter more confusing, why make color available as a holiday Easter egg only to revert to white the next day? Could have been a great roll out of colored ambient light feature. Missed opportunity IMO. Maybe it’s just poor communication /customer relations or perhaps a hint at pay to play features to come. Time will tell….

I want the opening bars of Beethoven's 5th to open the truck and the last cord of "A Day in the Life" for locking it up...let us get creative with it...in the meantime, bring the owl and the wolf back...

I agree- I liked the Owl much better than the chirp!
Rivian should make the sounds user-choice and give options as well as a way to add your own.
In addition to adding future sounds with the updates.

Colors should be chooseable and programmable too.

The white light accent lights are too distracting. I keep them off. Loved the Halloween update and like most on here, thought maybe it was the introduction to user-selectable accent lighting and sounds. Lack of selectable lighting color is one of the few things that’s bothered me since I got the truck that this wasn’t available out of the gate. Almost amateur.

So if they’re not going to make it available for free, I wish they would go ahead and get on with offering it on a subscription basis. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like that approach either, but if they price it reasonably, it would probably be popular. Making it off limits is just frustrating.

A nice compromise would be allowing drivers a single choice of color for free to replace white - perhaps after a trial week of unlimited. That way we could have functional interior accent lighting, even if we didn’t want to pay for unlimited choices.

Sheesh where is all this conspiracy stuff coming from? This is an underhanded plot by Rivian to start charging you for every little thing? Really?

Take it at face value - this is a lighthearted, playful, temporary bonus feature, meant to be enjoyed, and is not a portent of evil corporate behavior.

There are a lot of features of the hardware that aren't being used. As time goes on they will start to use some of these features via OTA updates. Like we've already seen with the flood lights in Camp Mode.
