R1S in SoCal. Up until today never had a problem with anything. Today, I came back home with 65 miles on the remaining charge. When I went to plug in, the charge door would open only about 10mm. And then it would not open. Went into the car and used the display to open and close but yet again, only that small amount of open. Did a reboot and then drove around the block and back into the garage and again, only a few mm's. Called support line. After a few minutes got connected to a service advisor. He did not have any more suggestions. I do not have enough juice to drive to El Segundo service center nor do I have the time in my life to waste to go there. Anyone have a work around w/o breaking the door? I'm not into jimmying the door open, but isn't there a manual release? Advisor seemed to intimate that there was, but that would trigger more bs. Frustrating to say the least. Thanks for all reasonable suggestions.

I'm pretty sure there is a manual release in the manual somewhere, but that might be for the charging plug not the door.

The manual release procedure is pretty clearly indicated in the Owner's Guide.

That would be great if I could OPEN the charging port. I cannot open the door, so I cannot even charge.

Not in car wash mode I assume?

I've pushed the door in when it was open unexpectedly. I imagine if you get solid purchase around the shaft that is coming out of the truck that you should be able to pull it open.

I mean if it already opens just a little it's going to need to be replaced... just force it open when it opens a little bit.

OR if you don't want to do that call Rivian back and request a tow because you can't charge and don't have the range.

Did you try accessing the manual release? It may only be for releasing a charging car, but worth a shot to see if there is access to getting the door open from that side. Its just removing a few clips and one plastic panel.

I’ve asked Rivian several times, each time I was told there is no manual release. Nothing in the owners manual. There is for the frunk but not the charge port.

this issue has been my one big worry….
