They can go ahead and remove the fragile sunroof and replace the fancy electric HVAC vents with good ol mechanical ones on mine.
As far as I'm concerned, the glass roof and the electric a/c vents could just go away on my R1T without any price reduction. They were both ill-conceived ideas.

If no 2023 price is coming I can almost guarantee that de-contenting is coming next. The frunk charge port was only the beginning.

The 1 and S will supposedly be the only Rivian retail offerings until 2026 when the R2 starts production.

i think Rivian is well positioned to do the price increase if needed. if you order now, you only make a reservation with $1k down and there is no price other than the estimate in the visualizer. im sure they'll raise it if/when its appropriate.

im hoping prices can remain stable though. they are working with Munro so hopefully they will be able to reduce costs to keep prices close to what they are now. plus the dual motor option should increase their margins once it makes its way to the R1.

At $71,500 the current R1T is underpriced and is a great value.

A simple old school flip up “moon roof” from the 80’s would have been better.

Keep in mind that the 114k is net deliveries and cancelations so some of those are not at the lower prices. We know they have delivered over 15k, we do not know how many cancellations they have but for sure some.

Without thinking about cancellations, they had 98k reservations at the end of Q2, we know 10k of those were post pricing fiasco so that would have been 88k, minus the 6584 deliveries in Q3, that leaves around 81.5k with price protection, so more than 32.5k (because it was as of Nov. 7th it would be net October deliveries and cancellations as well that we do not know the qty) of those 114k reservations have no price protection.

It probably would cost them more to lose those orders than to discount them.

Don’t tell Rivian but I would eat an increase if they forced one. ?

As competition increases lots of people won't eat it though. At the end of the day people need cars and won't do much that is too "adventurous".

Since the EX90 announcement guess what, I now have 2 preorders. Sure I prefer the Rivian but it's already more expensive. I won't need quad so I'll likely go down to the dual when my times comes which will "bring down the price". I fully expect to likely be paying the same amount in 1.5 years for the dual than I am for the quad today. But even then I'll pit it against the EX90 price and offering to make sure I'm getting the best for my buck and needs

I agree, that is why I said they need the sales and it is better to honor the statement they made in March regarding pricing.

Economy is going to be tight for the next year or two, they need to keep the lines going even if it is going to bring in less money than they would like.

I'm sure Rivian leadership has/will be discussing this very topic.

What changes were made to the Lightning for 2023 MY?
They actually removed key features including the heated steering wheel, heated mirrors, and the onboard scales. They also removed some sort of security feature, but I’m not sure what that is. They cut these features, without communicating anything to reservation holders, but still raised prices. There hasn’t been any “locked pricing” with Ford.

If Rivian’s competitors are doing this, and getting away with it (remains to be seen, but Ford can’t make Lightnings fast enough right now) then I think it’s definitely possible Rivian will eventually follow suit.

But as a protected, pre-March reservation holder, they are building brand loyalty with me, even before I receive delivery.

It's all the inflation playing the show now. Same materials but expensive now.
It will take couple of years for the prices to start coming down. So if you need the truck, go ahead and buy it.

But at around 80k(decent equipped truck) its a very very tough pill to swallow

I predict Rivian will have a price increase for 2023 R1 vehicles. I predict current reservations will be impacted and a Tony will be sending out an e-mail soon.

Your thoughts? Did they learn a price increase lesson earlier in the year when they had tons of cancellations?

Bottom line? Rivian needs to increase theirs.
Yes, highly likely pricing will be going up.
I work in automotive and we are raising all pricing again to recover commodity cost increases. Averaging about 4-5% across all products but 15% for EV products.
