I am FUMING over this. We've been waiting multiple years to get the Max Pack-Quad Motor. We all gave them the benefit of the doubt for so much, me especially:
-Price increase (which they reneged on, but not really if you think about all of this other stuff)
-Removal of Powered Tonneau cover (indefinitely)
-Removal of the Camp Kitchen (indefinitely)

But now they force max pack to be dual motor only. They even have the balls to say they will reintroduce "later" at a yet-to-be-announced price (hint: HIGHER) as if this is some sort of "new" model, and not the one they announced 5 years ago.

So what are my options?
-Quad Motor -Large Pack without my Powered Tonneau cover, and camp Kitchen, and give up the extra range I need as a buffer for towing. We have a camper we like to take out and I'd love to

-Continue to wait well into 2024 for *maybe* the "enhanced" dual motor, and hope nothing else changes to the detriment of my order.

-Cancel my order and move on. This is seeming like the most attractive option at this point. But I feel like this is what they wanted. They obviously are loosing money and don't really want to commit to the pre March pricing.
Or you can get some significant money off, stay with the Max Pack, and get dual motor instead of quad. That seems like the most logical play here. Especially considering the main use case for quad motors is extreme rock crawling and extreme off-road conditions. The dual motor should be just fine for 99% of people.

I'm at the 'fuck it, time to cancel and just get a 2023 Colorado ZR2'. I already bought a Land Rover Defender 110 knowing it'd be at least a year, now it's looking like more and more. I am wondering if Rivian is right for me at all anymore.
I was considering the 2023 ZR2 until I saw the fuel economy.

This is nothing new. All of us Max preorder holders have gotten Sh** on since the beginning. No reason to believe waiting until 2024 won’t be another bait and switch. Its literally become their business model at this point.

I just got out of a chat with Rivian. Max Pack dual motor is still 400v and won't charge any more quickly. The "around" 400mi range estimate is only for the 21" wheel so it sounds like they are only adding two battery modules so I wouldn't expect the 20s or 22s to hit 400mi. The "enhanced" version gets another 100hp. No information on lockers or tonneau cover availability. They will force anyone with a quad motor max pack into a dual motor max pack come January when they update the configurator.

So just ? those of us who actually will use the quad-motor capability off-road. Got it.

Why not happy? I'm actually a bit upset that I didn't keep the max pack. I would take a dual motor max pack with $4500 off.
I'm in the same boat. I don't really need the quad motors. I would have gladly paid essentially $5k more for max pack + dual motors instead of large pack + quad motors.

This is better news then expected given previous vague 2024 max pack GA. Okay for the minority of max pack holders wanting 4 motors and 3.5 sec acceleration it's disappointing but for most of us it's newer engineering, better battery density AND less money! We can yell at the sky all day long but don't forget this is a startup company and it's capitalism baby. Given other market choices (who else is shipping a EV truck again?) this is still the best deal going!

Personally, always assumed the 400-ish miles was going to be for 21s. But should've meant 360-ish miles for the 20s is what I assumed. If Dual+Max really is just going to be the same old same old on 400V, I may say screw it and go Quad+Large.

This surprises me and I would question it more. It seemed like the new motors would be 800 volt, they also should be with the newer hardware that should allow for VtoH. I am not a large pack reservation holder but someone who received this letter should respond back to Tony and see exactly what that all would be.

I would put aside any initial disappointment and get the details, this might have many more positives than negatives in the long run.

Shoot, I forgot all about wanting V2H with Max pack. Kinda like what's the point of having such a massive battery if I can't also power my house with it in an emergency.

I spend much of my year in Either northern Michigan with family or in Colorado with friends so I was banking on the quad motor benefits over even a dual motor with LSD at the back.

Spend a lot of time in snowy and/or unmapped terrain.

They just posted a video of a bunch of trucks and SUVs testing the dual motor at the same time this announcement came out. It wasn't a coincidence.

Saw their post on FB and asked a bunch of questions I don't expect to see answered.
