There's design decisions (e.g. bracket design), which I have faith that EV Sportline is on top of and then there are style decisions, which I think are relevant to discuss. After all, we all want a successful product.
Agreed. @EV Sportline benefits (as well as the customers) from style input - as their final product will appeal (and sell) to more owners. And, as another member said, this is a "forum," where opinions are widely shared.

Phew, what a read!

It is crazy to see so many diverging opinions and poor @EV Sportline seemingly trying to entertain them all...

Not sure why some of you think that you are part of the design process? This is a product they offer, you either like it enough to buy it, or you don't, simple as that.

The irony that this is a Forum, and as such the voice of the people, is not lost on me, but the second guessing of design decisions is a bit much.

We (I) have no clue of the full set of requirements they work to, so to offer up design changes without knowing those requirements, seems silly.

I completely understand you have concerns about wind noise, range and all that good stuff, but in the end, the company offering the product will do their best to offer a product they stand behind (and, in this case, on ;) ) and it is up to us, the consumer, to decide if we like their offering enough to give them our money, not a whole lot more to it.

The more changes we force them to make, the later we get our parts...
Maybe people offer opinions, thoughts and options because the vendor has entertained the idea that users have ideas that *may* be workable and beneficial?

Ultimately I would expect that they go this route and offer a modular design: https://usa.chiefproducts.com.au/products/wk2-rock-rails

This way the customer can order exactly what they need/ want and if EV Sportline are willing to entertain the idea of custom thread plates, you can pay extra for your custom design.

It’s true. And it’s impossible to get anywhere near a majority of people to agree on issues of style. And nearly impossible to get them to agree on the functional design elements, although that is much easier than the style stuff.

If I were @EV Sportline I would stay away from logos or symbols or anything more complicated than diamond or small circle or oval patterns. The more style you add, the more it is subject to people’s opinions. We don’t deserve nice things :giggle:

Edit: I just learned that in geometry, the "oval" shape we sometimes refer to on the Rivian is actually a "stadium".

This one, that one and the other one.

Customer feedback should always be a good thing. They can do as they choose with it. Better to hear from them ahead of time and make any decisions before delivery, if possible than have customers not happy with something they could have changed had they known ahead of time. Simply sharing opinions allows them to gather information. What they do with it is entirely up to them.

I greatly appreciate that they are at least, listening to the feedback

In the late 90s / early 2000s, we always called them pill-buttons or just pills. It's just a rectangle with a split circle on either end.

As opposed to the squircle, which is a blended square and circle shape, the term first popularized by the Zune control button.

Interesting, in researching this, it appears that "oval" is an accepted term for this, mainly due to running tracks having that shape, and often being called ovals. So stadium is not too far off.

Gang, thanks for all the feedback - yes, we digest everyone's input, after all we're making products for YOU! Very much appreciated :) Rivian Nation is the best! The product and tread plate(s) will be awesome, thanks!

BTW, this is another view of the slotted plastic and how our brackets pass through - I posted this earlier too, but 34 pages is a lot to sift through!

I know for sure when I cut the plastic trim it is not going to look as clean as this.

Yeah to be fair though most everyone is fine without them but will the seat edges be fine, that's the question. ;)
I am on the shorter side and there is definitely wear showing from my sliding out of the seat at ~17,500 miles. Please ignore the dirtiness as I was cutting and hauling a bunch of firewood and tracked half the forest back into the cab with me.

I will probably not cut mine as I could definitely see this being an aftermarket part they could make further in the lifecycle.(maybe even aluminum!?)

Boom!

Two options will be offered for tread plates:

1 - updated rotating squares pattern
2 - new classic triple slot pattern

* also reduced the qty of patterns by 50% on both.

Thanks again everyone!

I really love the triple-slot pattern as well. That's definitely my preferred choice.
