For those who got R1S (or R1T) at original approximately $78k would you buy one for new price of approximately $93k?

Was in lowest setting and even with that, it’s easily 6-8” taller than the back of my 4Runner. My dogs could get in but just needed a running start and they were initially reluctant. They’re 50 lb and healthy, go running/ski touring with me… I’m almost offended at the implication blaming my dogs’ health for the idiotically high lift gate. Guess that’s #millennial for you.
You can be offended if you want, I don’t care. I’ve watched a friend’s husky and German Shepard go in and out of the back of a R1S and T without trouble so it seemed likely that the suspension was either set too high or the dogs were old and aren’t capable of a good jump anymore. You can blame millennials if it makes you feel better though.

I would totally buy this car again at the higher price. This is an absolute steal of a deal. The build quality and performance are unreal. This is an 800HP+ Range Rover, McLaren, and has serious off road chops. It's also priced accordingly among its competition... Probably too low as Raptors and Escalades are easily 100k+.

Rivian R1S for $75,500 is priced right for the segment, offering and build quality / features.

Rivian can become out of range for many once you start adding quad motor or extended battery pack.

The base model Rivian for $75,500 is a very good value and probably something I would still buy and many will still buy.

If I qualified for the tax credit, I would pick either the quad motor or battery pack upgrade depending on what I value the most.

My order is on the pre-march pricing and if I didn't have my order, I would've just waited till 2025 or 2026 to pick-up a quad motor Rivian.

Hopefully competition will works it magic and technology will improve so we can get quad motor and 300+ miles in the future for the same current price as dual motor and small battery pack.

The other option is pick up something with less than 10,000 miles second hand with quad motor.

Short answer is no, but not because of perceived value or anything.

We have the money, we have the need, we don't have the drive to buy new experience vehicles if we don't have to. Hell, this is our first brand new vehicle. New vehicles just don't have a good value proposition for us.

We broke that rule twice, now, as our ICE vehicles expired and we made the decision to go EV.

We had a use case for a light duty truck and wanted to go EV and the lighting was not yet being produced, leaving us with one option: Rivian. If there were a better value proposition we probably would have gone that route while I kept daydreaming for a Rivian.

I knew Rivian, watched Rivian, wanted a Rivian, did not want to spend 78k on any vehicle ever at all.

Price hike came and we decided to cancel but dragged our feet until the price reverted.

At this point the market is so jacked up that eleventyhundredthousand might still be reasonable by comparison. Everybody is hiking prices so if we were in the market today we probably would just not by anything or buy a used shit box truck until we found something perfect.

If, however, you're someone willing to pay today's prices in general and are dedicated to going electric, then I don't see why not. An ICE F150 tops, what, 80? I haven't looked in a while. Apples to oranges but once you're in that price realm, the difference to 100k over a 7 year loan is a couple hundred bucks a month. Not chump change but not a deal breaker if you've got the means.

IMHO as a R1S reservation holder, my opinion is valid for a category for those of us who have orders and will purchase the vehicle but have not taken delivery.
Fair enough though without one you can’t answer the question that the person who initiated the thread asked is the point I think. For those that don’t have one yet the answer is obvious. You are either still on the list awaiting delivery or you are not. If you are a current reservation holder you obviously see value in the R1 at the price you paid. You voted with your checkbook. BTW I do hope you get yours quickly. You are going to love it.

Got it. I actually drive mine so not a thing for me.
No it isn’t. They are distinct things. Lane keep assist simply nudges you back the opposite direction if you cross the lane marker. This is what causes “ping-ponging” if you attempt to let lane keep alone steer the car. Lane centering specifically keeps you centered in your lane without ping-ponging. It can take modest curves without user input. BMW, Audi, Hyundai, and Kia for example offer lane centering. Porsche and Land Rover (and Rivian) only offer lane keep. There’s a big difference in experience between them.

Funny enough, I also own a ‘22 Kia Telluride and ‘22 Kia Niro EV, both with their ‘lane centering’ … both Kias ‘ping-pong’ between the lanes, my R1T performs significantly better when using the ‘lane assist’ feature.

That's literally the opposite of my experience and the general opinion of many automotive journalists. I drove a rental base model Hyundai Sonata a few years ago, which I believe shares its lane centering tech with Kia, and was very impressed. The Straight Pipes frequently sing that system's praises, and they drive a ton of different vehicles. The Rivian does fine when highway assist is active, but its basic lane keep is just that -- lane keep with no sense of centering.

Yeah, the Niro EV is over aggressive and will zigzag down the lane at times, the Telluride is sluggish, and will make lazy S-curves down the highway that have to lazily fight. The Rivian will gently nudge me back to center without highway assist on, but with its steering rack, and the excellent alignment, I have, it stays firmly planted in the lane. Our highways, even sometimes have significant ruts from studded tires, and so far it’s performed better than my two Kia’s.

I used to think the system in the Kias was quite good, until I got my R1T. ?‍♂

Makes a HUGE difference if the vehicle is in kneel mode. One big issue is our R1S won’t kneel in the driveway (which isn’t even sloped “that” much). In kneel mode medium to large dogs have no problem. In normal or even low setting it’s difficult for a dog if they don’t have above average jumping ability.

I wish Rivian would add a manual kneel mode when the vehicle is in park.

I'm a yes. I got my truck in May. Knowing what I know now, I would still buy without the tax credit and without original price. This truck cost me more than my first home and I'm still in. Enjoying it every day.

For those who have taken delivery of R1S at original approximately $78k would you buy one for new price of approximately $93k? Awkwardly asking if you love the R1S enough to have paid the new price. If any R1T owners want to give their opinions that would great also. thanks
Probably, really wanted the truck. Glad I got it for just under $77K.
