Only solid cases here. You can check s00nish.com. we have a couple pictures of the classic plate with phones on them. Again they fit fine. No issues from anyone who has snagged one so far.
Are you anywhere close to releasing the final design?

The rubber request threw a wrench into our plans. We are looking into that. Also both wrinks (s00nish partner) and I prefer the look of the base and plate under the wood. But I think we can get a blend of both with the rubber mat. We have an idea though. And I'm hoping to give an update super s00n.

What about leather or alcantara wrapping the plate? Should be enough to prevent damage and provide slip resistance. That coupled with the mag safe may get you where you want to be. Can also be had in a variety of colors pretty easily.

My workshop is getting set up in my new house right now but I do have a CNC machine and ability to machine things at home if needed!

Also, look into liquid silicone. It's a low temp low pressure casting material that you can mix and pour at home if you have a mold.

The issue with pouring into the mold is that we lose the precision we need. I’ve already looked into that. As for wrapping…. Producing one or two is not an issue. But when I need to wrap 100 pieces that’s when things get very crazy busy quickly.

This whole s00nish business is a side hustle for wrinks and I. Or as my wife says: a hobby. My regular job as a teacher keeps me super busy as is, so trying to keep manufacturing simple.

The anodized or powder coated aluminum would be fine by me. If you offered multiple colors I might get two..... I apologize if I missed this, can the plate be removed for cleaning?

What are your key critical features and dimensions that you need the precision for? There are lots of relatively easy ways to control these features in an at home setting.

I'm an engineer and have tons of experience with molding and machining of a wide variety of plastic/metal parts and do woodworking on the side so I have a buttload of tools too. If you want to talk and/or want some advice, shoot me a PM.

As far as wrapping goes, it's not hard if the whole thing is going to be recessed. You can apply a layer of spray adhesive, press down the top layer, and trim off the excess. This whole process, especially if you used a machined plastic base rather than aluminum would likely be better, faster, and cheaper than a machined aluminum base that you then wanted to powder coat or anodize.

Precision: This mostly surrounds the magsafe chargers. They are pressure fitted in and I know both my laser cuts and my 3d printing has been dialed in to keep this in place with no gaps and no use of external adhesives or otherwise. I'd like to keep it that way. When I messed with silicon pouring I couldn't get the same precise cutouts that I was getting with the other tools, but like I said above... I do not have the time or space to individually pour each mold. (Reaching out to manufacturing companies currently.)

Wrapping: Yup, I've done it... a lot. Wrinks and I were talking about setting up a bunch of 3d printed plates 3m spraying them and then laying down a leather or pleather on top. However, this would mean we would have to go with a look that is below the wood. (Which I actually prefer and love, since its a clean look. See picture a few pages back. But several people have said they want it flush with the edge of the wood)

There are a lot of things we are weighing and debating. Give us some time and we will find the best compromise between what everyone wants. Also for my own sanity, I am going to choose something that makes my life a wee bit easier.

In regards to the precision, this is the perfect opportunity for overmolding onto the plastic plate. You can maintain the precision with this method. If there's a chance of offering a "blank" plate to overlay whatever the owner wants, I'd love to take you up on it as I can pretty easily lay a nice piece of leather over the top and get a clean look.

Anyway, offer to help out with whatever (for free that is) questions you may have from an engineering standpoint still stands. I love doing this stuff and enjoy the process!

This is why I like this community, people offering to help each other make cool stuff for all of our trucks. I would help but unfortunately my areas of expertise aren’t applicable.

You have me going down a leather search right now... Also depending on the thickness of the leather... we may be able to hide the magsafe pucks too. Still researching and still working on it. I may PM you. Or heck let me know if you know of any good, reputable, thin and laserable leather.

I do leatherworking too (wife says I have far too many hobbies and she's right) and the best place to get leather is buckleguy.com. Make sure you get the thinnest possible, a 2-3oz piece is going to be about 0.08-1.2mm thick. For laser cutting, you'll want vegetable tanned leather that's struck through with dye otherwise you'll get weird color patterns after cutting. Chrome tanned leather is going to give you a big headache with laser cutting. Either way, make sure you lay down some painters tape on the top surface to prevent the charring from staining the piece below. If you do go down the leather path, the best way to do it is to get a clicker die of the shape you want made up and use an arbor press to cut out pieces quickly and accurately. I have a half hide of soft black leather (though it's not thin at this point) right now that I was planning on wrapping a plate in if you were going to sell them blank. :)

Shoot me a note with any other questions.

Ok guys. I put in an order for some material to try out. I'm going to hold the material as a secret for now. But it should satisfy you softies out there.

This complicates the manufacturing but we will figure it out, as you guys want it! We get our samples Feb 6. So hold tight all!

Quick edit: There's a chance we can hide the magsafe pucks too.

I do not mind the pucks showing; I prefer it, even. They're functional. It also lets me stick my Android phone on top to charge next to my GFs iPhone (works great as long as the surface isn't slippery... rubberish is good!)

I prefer to be as close to OEM look/feel as possible while adding the functionality of 2 MagSafe chargers.
Agree! Definitely need 2 MagSafe chargers that work and a surface that holds the phone against sliding.
The current charging surface is not usable because it’s difficult to find the right position for the phone and the first time you hit the accelerator or brake it’s no longer charging. I have to plug my phone in.
