CarPlay discussion with Rivian CS: company is working with Apple and it's a priority

I would love for it to be true, but it seems unlikely. Rivian has been very public in their rationale for not including AA/CP. Certainly they could have had a change of plans, but I'm not holding my breath. And the cynic in me thinks that if they end up doing this, it will be pay to play.

Are you saying you want to be able to navigate without cell coverage on the native navigation or on CP/AA? You don't need cell coverage for the latter thankfully, so even without integration you could always pull the directions up on the phone.

I'm not able to pull up directions on my phone when I have no cell coverage. Even with downloaded maps. Maybe that's a latest version thing.

I've heard them squawk about "we can do better than CarPlay" but I wouldn't call that rational.

I think it's more centered around their partnership with Amazon.

Those arguments were always nonsense. Any suggestion from Amazon to not use a competitors product would be against the law. Granted that hasn't stopped companies in the past but I see very little benefit to Amazon by keeping AA/CP out of the Rivian so why risk it?

The Rivian->Alexa integration is so awful I think that is evidence enough that Amazon doesn't have much say in the consumer R1 platform.

Only question I have is, if CP/AA is actually implemented will battery preconditioning still be tied to Rivian's onboard navigation? How would preconditioning work if using a navigation app within CP/AA?
