I think you'd be the very few if you decide not to do it. I'll be doing the 4" holes with the rubber plugs.
Think Im capable of removing panels and putting boards with help of a friend, but the panel cutting is beyond us.

It's not that hard, if you don't try it you'd never know what you're capable of :). The template is provided for us, you just line it up and drill the 4" holes. If you're afraid of over shooting the hole, just remove the interior edge of the panels, leave them hanging open and drill. You can easily stop drilling then. Buy the rubber plugs. After you install the brackets, just measure the distance from the edge of the hole to the bracket, then transfer the distance to the plug and cut a slit. Install the plug onto the bracket and go on to the next. It's really not very hard, I'm rooting for you. ?

i’ve been reading posts while i wait for my running boards. i’ve notice folks are saying how heavy the packaging is and was wondering if the boards themselves are heavy? is it just a lot of packing material that is making the package heavy? how much reduction to mileage are folks seeing? still excited to get the boards though!

what rubber plugs?

And based on my experience fixing shelves in our kitchen... I'm gonna end up with mangled panels.

Thanks. Has anyone used these yet and would it be a total of 8 needed (100 mm size) ?
Yes the running boards / slides have 4 mounts per side and 100mm plugs would be correct for 4" since 100mm - 3.93". FWIW, I ordered the 10 pack for $1 more to give me something to experiment with.

Not enough weight to notice a difference. Combined running board weight is less than a standard passenger.

Im in sort of the same boat on the handy side of things. I've been watching the evsportline ones more as they claim the rock sliders (not out yet) will not require cutting/plugging things.

I dont really need rock sliders, but I do need a step for my height challenged family members and i'd rather not cut OEM parts even if its just plastic bits.

Yeah, was on the fence with it. But didn't want to pay the extra for the rock sliders. Hoping that if I need to, I can buy replacement panels from Rivian for $600.

I will not be. Boards scheduled for delivery tomorrow.. my panels are already off and have been for about a month now. I plan on installing and leaving the panels off. I figure they are only there truly for aero purposes. I've not had anything come up yet.
Out of curiosity, when was your order date? I am seeing posts on other forums about orders placed in the 1st week of November being delivered last week. My order date was 11/16 but I have not heard anything. I am about to leave time for a while and I'm sure they will come as soon as I leave.

See you are in Austin? Will you be installing yourself or taking it to a shop in the area?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I was Nov 27, and Brooke indicated I was probably “mid-March” delivery.
