You'd better prepare yourself for that truck to cost at least $120k with a battery like that.
At least that much. I had a RAM 1500 and it was a great all around truck for years. An electric version of the 1500 is more appealing than the F150 Lightning. But it’s highly unlikely I’ll buy one.

The 400v architecture bothers me. The competition is out and ahead while Rivian plays with the options and in-house manufacturing to squeeze profit margins. If they don't stay competitive with quality they will lose.
The difference between the Rivian's 400V arch and the competition's 800V arch is probably about 5-10 more minutes of charging per 2.5-3 hours of driving because of differences in overall efficiency. I don't think we'd see 350kW in the Rivian because they are already exceeding the rated maximum charge current of the cells, and it's already being thermally throttled because of it. There's a definite disadvantage to charge rate because of the size of the pack vs the competition.

Rivian R1T R1S R1T Max Pack + Dual Motor range update from Rivian: 335, 360 and 400 miles range IMG_7008 2
Here is my 'I.R.S.MAX' edition, pre May 22 pricing and eligible for $7500 tax credit. A 300h.p. drop is a tough sacrifice and tonneau cover and racks are deleted as to not jeopardize the tax credit. I may install smoothie color matched 24" rims when the tires wear out for a semi-slammed look! I just bought the color matched bike, now PROVIDE THE TRUCK!

If you drop yellow and go to silver, you can add the RUS and Manual Tonneau and come in at $79,500.

But then you might have to buy a new bike. :CWL:

I bet they allow us to purchase the "Performance Dual Motor" as a software update after purchase of the truck. Kind of like Tesla does with their acceleration boost.

At 800V, though, wouldn’t both required current and heat dissipation drop?

Looks like I'll be sticking with the one and only large-pack configuration that will have any sort of tax benefit... Silver, dual-motor, large pack, 21" road.
This shall henceforth be known as the "IRS Edition."
Does it still qualify for and tax benefits? I thought with the new guidance that Rivian would not currently qualify. I hope they still do because that the IRS Edition is what I wanted either way! :)

More chart visuals to help you assess the impact based on Wheel Selection.
In my opinion, going from Quad Large to Dual Max is worthwhile - 20% is significant.

By the time 800v charging becomes more ubiquitous and reliable, R1 will have upgraded to this. For the next 5 years, 400v is plenty fast

From my guide:

The Performance Dual Motor will be able to be either configured or purchased afterward as an upgrade.

IT stuff
My priorities for my R1T purchase are mostly range-related because I do plan to haul a camping trailer at some point. In trying to make sense of all of the "R1T Max Pack vs. Other" comparisons in this thread, I put the following tables together. I hope this is helpful to others.

What's below is based on the following for an R1T:
- My pre-March pricing
- The Rivian Configurator for prices and range values
- Prices are based on the Adventure Package and no-cost exterior and interior colors

This table compares the Large Battery, Quad-Motor with a Max Pack Battery, Dual-Motor (both base version and Performance version (indicated by "+"). I suspect this is the comparison that's most relevant to those of us that are interested in the extended range offered by the Max Pack. (Note that I don't include the 22" wheels because, well, I'm not considering that option.)

As indicated, the Dual Motor with Max Pack gives you a 22% increase in range for an 8-11% increase in sales price, depending on whether you get the Performance version or not. Of course you're giving up some power and increasing your 0-60 time. Further, going from the quad motor to the dual motor will change the off-road capabilities, presumably for the worst.

(As a few folks have pointed out, that 22% increase is partly attributed to the Dual Motor (7-9% depending on wheels) with the remainder attributed to the Max Pack. See my later post here for those details.)

Rivian R1T R1S R1T Max Pack + Dual Motor range update from Rivian: 335, 360 and 400 miles range Rivian Compare Table 1.1

This table compares Dual Motor, Large Battery vs. Dual Motor Max Pack. (Prices reflect the base version of the Dual Motor, not the Performance version.) Perhaps not as relevant in the decision making process, but it is as true apples-to-apples comparison of identical configurations with the exception of the battery size. For an 10% increase in sales price, you get a 14% increase in range. Admitedly, this could be an over-simplification.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful.

Wow. Buyers who choose the Max Pack will be paying a hefty premium.

I noticed the 260+ mile “standard” pack wasn’t listed.

I went to the website and the “Performance“ Dual Motor will run you $5,000. Its only 1-second faster than the Dual Motor. I don’t see a lot of buyers checking this option box. It’s a super expensive option for a minimal performance gain.

But not nearly as hefty a premium as the elusive and mysterious Orange Coast interior:

I don't see 22%. The max pack on AT improves 35 miles, from 300 to 335

400 miles for 77k (pre-March 1) is pretty amazing value.

Sure, it “only” has 600 HP and probably takes 4 seconds to go 0-60, but take a step back and think about how fast that is. Just 5-6 years ago, that would have been practically unbelievable. It’s slower than the fastest truck ever made, but it’s not slow. I’d be very tempted to go with that option over my quad motor if I had the choice.
I want to like your comment because thats what I would do for my R1S pre-order but your profile pic won't allow it. ?
