Should I remove charger from my config? Or will that cause delay?

I currently have the wall-charger selected on my pre-order but I'm on the fence if I actually want it. I'm leaning towards no, so I'm wondering if I should update my config to remove the charger before tonight's ETA update cut off.

But I don't want to do anything to give Rivian an excuse to delay my order, so I'm leaning towards leaving it on for now especially since I'm not 100% sure I don't want the charger.

When my place in line comes up, is there an easy opportunity to add/remove the charger? Or is making a change then even more likely to cause a delay?

100% remove it. If needed, buy the new Tesla version that comes with J1772 adapter.

To answer question, removing or adding it won’t change delivery timing as it is separate of manufacturing of vehicle.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
All accessories ship separately from the vehicle itself - crossbars, mounts, rubber floor mats … and the charger. I doubt it will incur any issues if you change it in your order.

That said, it’s a steal if you have pre-order pricing. You’ll easily unload it after the fact and get your money back if you don’t want it.

if you are have it for $500, then get it. otherwise, no
I am really just wondering if it is better to remove the charger now, or later.

$500 is the price (for me) but even at that price I'm not sure that it makes sense for me to buy it.

I am going to have to charge 2 vehicles from a single 240V 30A circuit. If I used the Rivian charger I would have to alternate which vehicle was plugged in every other night. Doable, but other options would allow more seamless multi vehicle power sharing.

Originally, I was assuming that Rivian would do something fun/useful/interesting with the charger that took advantage of them controlling the software on both the car and charger. But that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems the only special feature of the Rivian charger is the Rivian logo. I do like the logo, but without anything else I don't think it is worth loosing out on multi vehicle power sharing.

If I do get the Rivian charger it would just be to sell it or to hang onto it until I move to a new house.

i was in the same conundrum when i got mine. I said why not for $500 since I can get rid of it without losing money.

When I got my house built, I got them to add a nema 14-50 and got a CP homeflex with my 1st EV (Volvo XC40 recharge). It works just fine when I got the R1T, it charges at 19 mph (40Amp). The only "issue" is that I have to drag the cable from the other side of the garage. It was "inconvenient" for me. So I decide to install the Rivian Wall Charger. Now, I don't have to worry about cable laying across the garage and get faster charging at 22 mph (48 amp) and the flexibility to charge both EV at the same time. I am happy with my decision.

The rivian unit is well built, but lack features compared to CP homeflex

Live life dangerously. Cut the charger. What's the worse that could happen (famous last words).

It's a charger. Don't waste your time on the small stuff mate!

Adding or subtracting the charger will have no impact on your delivery timing. I don't know why this is even a question. The charger ships separately - if they are short of chargers then your CHARGER will take longer to arrive, but it won't affect your vehicle delivery. Similarly, how can you possibly think that REMOVING the charger will cause the vehicle to be delayed?

Add the items you want, leave off the items you don't want. It's that simple. The only things that could affect delivery timing are the things that are attached to the vehicle. Like paint. Like wheels. Like underbody shield. Accessories available in the Gear Shop don't matter.

If you remove the charger from your config, Rivian says your previous ETA is invalid and deletes the ETA from your account.

To me that is a reason to think the charger may impact your ETA. They wouldn't need to delete your ETA if the charger had no impact on the ETA.

If you need a charger, order the charger. If you already have one, don’t order one. I received my Rivian charger about a week before delivery, and had it installed about a month after delivery. It came via ups, separate from the truck.l (Nov 2022 delivery). If you think changing your order to include or not include the charger will impact your delivery date, I’d doubt it, but it isn’t my order or decision, or my $500.

I'm planning on removing it from my config after new delivery date is updated. I don't think it matters if I do it now or May 1st but just gonna wait.

Going to get Tesla charger. Its $100 cheaper than my $500 price and its faster.

If you could do more with Rivian app and Rivian charger, then I would consider keeping it.

No, it is NOT "faster" - that is impossible. Choose whatever charger you want, but you don't have to make up things and spread misinformation to justify your choice.

Good call out. For some reason I thought Tesla's charger Max output amp was 8amp higher but it is the same.

Older Tesla wall chargers are 80A.
