Hi, When cars come to the shop is it just random or around the same time everyday…. I’m developing a severe ocd issue.

I slipped it into our ongoing talk/walkthrough/First Drive, that I had seen 4 CY R1S's in the R1Shop, since Jan '23 that had been posted in forums by others, that I would have gladly jumped on anyone of them had I had access & that led to mention that I was obviously flexible in my configuration & he seemed to make a note on his large phone (looked like a S22 Ultra) but he did not blow it off with the same comment we all get from CS and also handed him my business card at the conclusion to hand off to SC Manager for them to add me to the Shop. Keep Ya Posted... :cool:

There was a discussion about this on another forum. The person who posted claimed that there is a definite pattern to the updates, and that it is never before 11:45 AM Eastern (8:45 AM Pacific) and as late as 8:30 PM Eastern on Fridays, presumably to make it "fair" to everyone. My experience so far (two weeks) is that I have not seen anything posted in the morning in the eastern time zone, but I am not camping on the site and refreshing every few minutes. I've also seen one or two people imply that availability is different by region/area, but I have no idea if any of this is true other than my experience.

I've got my 2nd First Drive tomorrow, in Atlanta. First time my wife couldn't join me. This time she can, so that's my excuse if there's any question about why I'm doing a 2nd drive. I'll definitely mention seeing the R1S Shop info on forums and that I'm flexible on configuration. Hope we both have luck with this SC. I think at least one other ATL forum member has had luck, so... fingers crossed!
I had good luck doing this at the ATL service center (where I did my First Drive and pickup).

I didn't directly "ask" for Shop access during the First Drive (not that I think it would hurt to be honest), but just mentioned that I was planning to pay cash, flexible on colors and which style of wheels I got as long as they were 20" ATs & I would have no problem paying / picking up within 24 hours or less once they had a vehicle ready for me.

She said that she said that she was going to "make notes" or comments on my account (no mention of a manager's list or friends & family list as others have posted about, though I have no reason to doubt those exist and may have been involved with the "notes" she made) and that info should help since Rivian really wants to close sales / deliveries as quickly as possible as they try to clear out the backlog of orders.

You can see my signature for full timing details, but I had a July - Sep 2023 delivery estimate, and received shop access ~11 days after the First Drive, selected an R1S the same day, and took delivery ~12 days after that.

So, Confirmed my Blue R1S selection in the shop on Apr 14th. Finished all my steps by Apr 19th including finance, trade in and ready with insurance. 3 weeks on and no significant updates. Still getting a "in transit" response from the guide.

I pass by a Rivian service center on my daily commute. I have on more than a few occasions stopped and wandered the lot admiring the various color combinations.

At least at my location they put a post-it note on the dash of each vehicle with a to-do list. I don't have any stats, but if feels like most vehicles have a few items on the to-list and hang around for a few weeks before they disappear from the lot.

If the service center is nearby you could go hunting for your vin in the lot, I wouldn't be surprised if it is there and they have just not finished with the predelivery prep work.

It looks like the listed location on your profile is Orange County, CA. If that's where the truck is being delivered, it's going to go by train which has been reported to take somewhere around 3-4 weeks recently (including transit and PDI) so you will likely have an update in the next week or so.

Based on reports others have posted, guides have basically no visibility into shipping status once the vehicle is in transit via train (they can see when it leaves the plant and when it arrives at the SC for PDI, but no ability to track progress in real time while it is on the rails) which is probably why you aren't getting any meaningful updates.

I live in Phoenix and it appears mine came by truck. Took less than a week to arrive. You might ask your guide whether they can tell what the mode of transportation is (mine could).

It might be different by truck, but there’s actually a field in your account screen that CS and the guides can see that has the last known city it was in. My guess is that the truck drivers check-in for the night and the vehicle’s location is automatically updated. Not sure if that’s the same via rail.

It’s also worth noting that both CS and the guides told me they’re instructed not to divulge the city location while in transit, but if you sweet talk them enough, you can get it. I was able to get location about 50% of the time when I called-in and tracked it through each state on the way from Illinois.

You’re in the home stretch!

Our R1S (which were picking up in Normal tomorrow) was selected from the shop in late March. For several weeks I was waiting for transportation to the Chicago area but the car remained in Normal. I noticed in the Rivian app that clicking on charging stations showed stations near Normal. I'm not sure if it's showing stations near the car using its GPS, or if it shows Normal by default. Would be interesting to see what location shows for those waiting on cars in transit. If not Normal, could be an indication of where the car is.
