Should probably just cancel and go with one of the alternative companies that will treat you better.
Obviously, Tesla has a MUCH better customer service record but I want a *real* truck and not a Mars-rover-poser truck, so Rivian is really the only option right now.

After working for Ford Aerospace right out of college, I've been a Ford man for the last 30+ years (Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, diesel Excursions, Expedition, F-150, etc.) but then they screwed me on a F-150 transmission recall a couple years ago, so now they are DEAD TO ME.

And although, the Hummer EV truck around the corner from me looks pretty good, I'm definitely not a *Government Motors* fan after being a Ford man all these years. ;-)

Someone please explain how someone who preordered a *nearly identical* R1S configuration 3 months (6/21) AFTER I preordered mine (3/21) could have gotten his delivered two weeks ago especially AFTER he changed his exterior color to my original exterior color (Midnight) and his wheels (22") at the 11th hour while I'm still waiting for my July-August delivery window estimate!? Essentially, the ONLY 2 differences in his configuration and mine are that I included skid plates and 20" AT blacked out wheels. Could skid plates and 20" AT wheels be the hold up?
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there are likely many more people who ordered even later than your coworker who are already driving their S. I understand the frustration - especially after seeing him drive his around, but the bottom line is that Rivian never promised to deliver any vehicles in sequential order.

I’ve seen many many people get their Ts that ordered after me and I feel like it’s just better to not worry about things I can’t control. You will get your S when it’s ready. Save yourself the frustration.

Just wait it out. You'll get a better product at lower interest rates.

There doesn't seem to be any logic to their system. There are people that ordered in 2020 that still don't have theirs. I understand there are service center limitations, but shouldn't you let the customer decide if that's going to be an inconvenience? And the only way to get shop access is to reach the right person or know the secret handshake is absurd. I'm driving a rental car until I mine comes in because it I don't want to buy a car that I'm not keeping.

But, be happy you aren't waiting for a Lexus or a Lyriq. At least we have hope that our orders will be fulfilled soon. I feel your frustration and really can't offer any answers.

So, you've seen MANY MANY people w/ a nearly identical configuration as you IN YOUR AREA that had a later preorder date than you get their Ts BEFORE you?

Again, obviously many factors are involved but in this specific case, based upon all the info Rivian has provided to date, it makes ZERO sense that the ONLY difference in our configurations is that my UNCHANGED configuration ONLY DIFFERENCE are two options which apparently are MORE POPULAR than the ones he changed!

I'll wait but based upon the feedback I've gotten here obviously *the squeaky wheel gets the grease* so I plan to follow up to the extent possible.

If OP’s forum tone is anything like his tone with CSR, I’d want to end the chat/test ride asap, too… haven’t seen such frequent use of caps lock in years across multiple vehicle forums, including in van forums where folks pay $20-30k up charges for vans they’ve been waiting on for years.

With all due respect, from what I can tell, this might not be the vehicle for you. I can only imagine when you actually get it and have to take it in for service. It might be a long, disappointing road.

If it makes you feel better, substitute bold/italic for caps lock. SMH

7k lbs SUV that does 0-60 mph in 3s w/ 4 motors is the vehicle for me, BUT it's all about expectation management and Rivian continues to fail when it comes to their preorder/delivery process transparency.

If their service sucks, then it will be the last Rivian I buy, but until proven otherwise, I'll given them the benefit of doubt although a $48k fender-bender repair definitely is concerning.

It will happen for you. You’ll get yours soon. I understand your frustration. Many of us have experienced it. But dude, you need to calm down. No amount of ranting here about someone that jumped ahead of you will change the trajectory. Not sure what you’re expecting from this forum.

You are missing my point entirely. Rivian never promised you they would deliver your S before anyone else, even if that person ordered yesterday. Your assumption it has something to do with configuration or date or whatever other puzzle piece is just guesswork and it will not get you a vehicle any faster. Neither will freaking out on customer service reps or guides because none of them have the power to control the build plan.

They gave you an ESTIMATED delivery window of July-August. They don’t have to do that or honor it or promise you they won’t deliver someone else’s vehicle with an estimate later than yours. It could come before that. It could come after that. If you just want a reason to be upset, then by all means carry on….

LOL. I ordered on 12/4/18 and I still don't have mine, even though similar configurations have been delivered since March, including to people who reserved in 2020. Oh well...

As others have mentioned, this is nothing new (same things happened with the R1T), 3 months is a negligible difference (especially before fall 2021), Rivian never promised fulfilling orders perfectly sequentially, and your expectations from customer service about why someone else has their R1S are way too high.

You’re complaining and you aren’t even within your delivery window yet. For all you know, that person’s R1S was meant to go to someone else, with an earlier delivery window, and they backed out of the purchase leaving that specific configuration available for this person to take.

That's crazy. Have you been given shop access or any indication that it's being delivered soon?

^ I think this is the most important thing to remember. ^

Outside of Rivian employees involved with the process, none of us know what determines the order of being assigned guides, getting shop access, and/or getting a vehicle delivered. Many of us infer some things based upon the experiences of others, but even that may change over time. As an example, being close to a service center was thought to move people closer to the front of the line. Now, if a service center is at capacity then being close to that service center may actually move you further from the font of the line. If there even is a line.

One thing we do know is that if we are looking at our reservation date and comparing to others it will almost always lead to frustration because it doesn't match the expectation that we have created for ourselves. Rivian never set that expectation for us.
