I have just over 2,100 miles on my R1S and I love the vehicle. That being said I am having some window issues that recalibration and resets aren't solving, and my steering wheel is slightly misalinged so I set up my first service visit. The earliest date they could give me is September 7th! Nearly 3 months from now. Thats a pretty tough pill to swallow.

Unfortunately, i think this happens to all the major service centers now. Rivian needs to power through this with more resources and hope production quality gets better.

Some tesla service opens on Sunday and my Rivian SC closes on weekends.

It is a shame they have no done more temporary service centers that are not public facing. They did this for a short one in the DC area and in Oregon. Would have been a relatively cheap and quick way to provide service.

I agree, I have a September 1st appointment for a couple of things. One thing worth noting is that there is a process to jump the line for safety issues. I had to have my windshield replaced two weeks ago and was able to get what would have been an end of August appointment moved up to three days after I called. I’m hoping that the planned service centers in the area open up sooner rather than later, otherwise the backlog will probably just get worse as more vehicles get on the road.

Sounds like the R1S has quality issues. I've been in twice for AC noise issues. The service center keeps telling me the excessive noise is normal and that the R1S is much louder than the R1T.

Still don't understand why Rivian isn't taking this service backlog thing more seriously. I feel it is endangering the company, but others on these forums think waiting 3 months for service is normal now days, so who knows anymore.

Tesla went through this but three months is excessive. Unfortunately permits and all those types of things take time and there's not any way to quickly open up a new service center. Equipment has to be sourced and ordered. Staff has to be hired etc. I'm not making excuses for Rivian by any means but we kind of knew this going in that were dealing with a new car company. I would say for the next year at least patience is going to be required. What Rivian is most likely doing is prioritizing issues that meet need immediate attention for example vehicle broken down.

My steering wheel is misaligned as well. Slightly off to the left but I don't want the vehicle towed to the non-customer facing service center and then sitting there. So I scheduled service in Richmond which is about 132 mi from me that was back in mid May and my appointment is mid July so 2 months out. I'm not happy about it. But I knew going in that service may be an issue.

These are growing pains. Frustrating for sure.

And all new customers should just be aware of these service limitations. For some, it will be no big deal considering how awesome the the R1 is. But for others....probably should be a deal breaker. At least wait till Rivian improves service.

Rivian does have more service centers planned, but that is a long process to get to opening day. Until then they might need to run 2 or even 3 shifts at the centers they do have to keep up in some areas. Or be open 7 days a week. At the rate they are now pushing vehicles out of the factory, they will make this problem worse before it gets better.

Did we? Because I certainly wasn't expecting a 3+ month wait for a service appointment from a Company that's been planning this out for the past 14 years. I knew going in that it was a possibility that I might run into QC issues, and I thought I would be fine with that considering that I live literally ten minutes away from a SC, but having to take my vehicle in twice already with a several month wait for an apt is making me rethink my position. I can't even imagine having to drive 132 miles and I applaud your patience.

Agreed it takes time but opening the next SC in NJ or NY two years after Brooklyn opened is excessive.
Temporary SCs as they did in DC and Oregon were options too but not utilized leaving just five along the entire east coast - that is poor planning and execution.

My delivery rep said to (unofficially) expect Edison, NJ to have a station by the end of Q1 next year

Agree 100%, Brooklyn is the nearest service center for 7 states right now which is ridiculous.

Totally agree. Arguably placing the first one in Brooklyn was a bad idea to begin with. I lived there for a few years and know very well the hellscape anyone is facing each time a visit is required.

If they had opened that one at the same time as another in PA/ NJ or even DE it would have made much more sense.

How do you know they are not taking it seriously?

I would argue the opposite - they are taking it seriously because there are 175 job openings on their web site that are field service related, all over the US and Canada. The more likely answer is that they are taking it very seriously but can't hire and train people fast enough. The US government reports there were 10 million (yes 10 million) job openings at the end of April. Hiring is difficult these days.
