We have a Model 3 and a R1S and they're different animals behind the wheel. I still enjoy driving the Model 3, in particular I like the heavier steering and feeling more glued to the ground, and creep mode. I also find the sound system better on the Model 3. The biggest complaint is the lack of sound deadening in the Model 3, the R1S is soooo much quieter.

These are all 100% accurate points. The R1T drives like a truck- throttle feels laggy (even though it's really not), suspension wallows in Sport mode, completely floats in other modes. I appreciate both driving dynamics.

R1T drives much better than a model 3. Not about being different. Model 3 drives like trash comparatively
We must have very different definitions of what It means for a vehicle to "drive" good. To me that means control and performance in steering, accelerating, and breaking.

To me, the Model 3 "drives" way better than Rivian by all three metrics. Probably not surprising since it weighs half as much and can be fitted with much better tires.

The Model 3's steering is much more precise and it is not prone to oversteering like the Rivian is. I can take corners at twice the speed in my 3 without slipping than I can in my Rivian. And Rivian's throttle response algorithm needs denoising so it does pulsate when you drive over a bump in the road. Rivian claims superior acceleration, but I find it tends to lose grip and fail to achieve the advertised 3.0 second sprint. My butt Dyno says Tesla is winning there too in real world performance on the street. And breaking, no one should be surprised that a 7000 lb vehicle struggles there.

I love my Rivian, and there are a lot of things I like about it more than my Tesla, but "driving" isn't one of them. If I had to describe one of my vehicles as "drives like trash" , it wouldn't be the Tesla. I bet I could complete a lap on a twisty road course and half the time in my Tesla when I could in the Rivian.

And I can’t wait to get my R1T back! Model 3 is just unpleasant to drive now. Can’t believe I used to have a 2018 one.
Interesting perspective, haven't driven the 3 since I traded my 2018 for the Rivian as well. I assume I will love the sportiness as I did before, but I bet it will feel much slower!

A motorcycle can outperform a Model 3. Of course, a tiny sedan can outmaneuver a 7000 lb truck.

The point is that for what it is, ie a small sedan, the model 3 sucks. It’s got an overreactive pedal, shit suspension, awful seats, croaks and creaks. The only thing it has going for it is that it’s an EV. Take that away, and a BMW, Porsche, or other comparatively sized car will beat it.

You’ll miss how refined the R1T is. M3 feels like cheap plastic, suspension, and parts thrown quickly on top of electric motors and battery.

Thanks for pointing that out, I do very much miss the Model 3 pedal, Rivian has way too much dead zone and unresponsiveness.

Personally, I don’t miss the pedal much. Sure, if one wants to go 0-60 fast, it’s useful.

But, I’ve had many many occasions in M3 and MYP where even if I want to go gradually from a stop at a light, the lightest pedal touch will lurch the car forward quickly. Passengers have remarked that their heads would go back and wasn’t expecting that. Neither was I.

I have a 2023 Model 3, 2022 Model S and an R1S - To me the Rivian ride quality, driving dynamics are the worst of the bunch. Its more capable offroad and the interior is beautiful, but in terms of on road driving, its no where near as refined. Doesn't mean I don't love it, I didn't buy it for the ride quality. Also I had a Ford Lightning which was way nicer to drive for long trips than the R1S just in terms of ride quality.

The last thing I've ever wanted is to hit the accelerator on a 6000 lb truck with 800+ horsepower while daily driving or parking and have it be as responsive as the model 3. I'm glad Rivian decided to leave some play in the pedal.
