My sister-in-law shut theirs by hand.....that was a no no....a service technician came to the house and fixed itSo the other day I closed my R1T frunc by hand because either the frunc sensor didn't detect the frunc latch, or perhaps the computer timed out and shut off the frunc auto-close sensor (kind of like how the tailgate and gear tunnel buttons turn themselves off), so I closed the frunc by hand for the first time. BAD idea! I applied what I would best describe as light to average pressure, the same amount of pressure that I would apply to any trunk of any car to close one, and my hood is now DENTED in two places! I'm super bummed because I love this truck, but it is just so delicate!
Has anyone else experienced this? The dents are subtle, but they are there and now I can't unsee them. Perhaps I pressed in the wrong location? They are just to the left about 3" of the Rivian logo. I already have a service appointment in about a week so I'm going to see what they say, but I'm not holding my breath. Needless to say I'm pretty astonished at how paper thin the aluminum hood is...Learn from me and do not close your frunc by hand!
We’ve used our Model T exclusively for work in bicycle business 15k miles and several hundred bikes and trikes loaded and unloaded including long road trips.Yeah I came from an F150 crew cab and figured since I was done with the big "truck stuff" like landscaping for my house and bringing home the bulky home depot items and appliances that I would be good to go, and use this truck more like a car that can haul bikes and boards, but ugh....
I looked under the hood and there is a removable plastic panel, so I am hoping the dent guy can get access to it through there.
Do those paintless or bondo-less services work on these things?yup, concur that the exterior is thin and weak. im afraid to lean on the vehicle in just about any spot for fear of denting it. i get nervous washing the front hood because i can feel it flex.
i get trying to keep the weight down but come on, too thin is just too thin. and how much impactful weight would they add by making it stronger? its already 7000lbs.
So THAT is why RIVN went south today! So the other day I closed my R1T frunc by hand because either the frunc sensor didn't detect the frunc latch, or perhaps the computer timed out and shut off the frunc auto-close sensor (kind of like how the tailgate and gear tunnel buttons turn themselves off), so I closed the frunc by hand for the first time. i think so. i think ive seen a few posts of folks using those places to fix minor dents.Do those paintless or bondo-less services work on these things?
What’s the paint of such a place? ;-ITry finding a 'pointless dent removal company.
Sorry that happened. We have had multiple issues with our frunk not closing properly and reopening. We have closed it by hand multiple times. I have not noticed any dings. Whoaaa, the rear glass cost $4600 to replace on your R1T? Holy moly, I am going to be super careful now. We’ve used our Model T exclusively for work in bicycle business 15k miles and several hundred bikes and trikes loaded and unloaded including long road trips.
Correct it’s easy to ding.
Dented all over, broken lenses, and one $4600 rear glass chalked up.
It’s a TRUCK we’re gonna load things in the bed, make that glass stronger, offer a guard, or at least simple and more cost effective to replace.

I may have to get a used F150 for my house remodel. I am kicking myself for selling my old one to get this R1T, should have kept it. I really don't want my Rivian to get all beat to hell just hauling stuff home from home depot and the tile store.
