Has anyone been able to get Alexa to activate the garage door opener? Since the garage opener is a software button that controls a basic function of the vehicle, you would think Alexa should be able to handle it. But I have yet to unlock the mystery of the correct word or words needed to have her do this simple job. Has anyone else had luck with this?

It's possible to do it with an external implementation but I think it's not supported through the truck. I'm fairly certain Alexa is active whenever the truck is awake, so someone could wake it and yell through the window to open your garage door if it were possible.

Ha... I am not trying to open the garage door with the vehicle inside (I haven't had a car in my garage since the day we moved in 37 years ago). We do use the garage to access the house (via the narrow path between all the stuff) so I was hoping to program Alexa to open the garage door as the vehicle approaches the house.

There are many things Alexa seems unable to do, I tried the garage door thing to no avail. I also tired "Navigate home", with home clearly set up in the navigation, and Alexa failed. finally, it asked me to provide it my address by voice, and then it worked. I asked it to open the frunk, would not do it. But if I ask to open the front trunk, it worked.

This can be done, but it takes a 3rd party integration between Alexa and your door operator. There is a thread here that describes the implementation process. I set mine up about 6 months ago and it works great.

One would think, that since there's a "garage door" icon on the main screen, which when you touch it, opens up a window that you touch to either open or close the garage door depending on its current state, that you should be able to say "Alexa, garage door open" or "Alexa, garage door close."

Unhappily, it doesn't work that way.

It's pretty dumb that it doesn't work with Alexa in the Rivian. If you have a smart garage door opener that uses MyQ app, you can use IFTTT or SimpleCommands to trigger the MyQ app to open the garage door when you say "Alexa, open garage door"...

Regarding the in-vehicle Alexa and garage door transmitter, the vehicle doesn't know the state of our garage doors. It just transmits a valid signal like a handheld/clip on opener would: if the garage door is closed then the signal opens it and if the garage door is open then the signal closes it. Maybe the command needs to be activate or use or something rather than open/close.

Beyond that, it could be that the command structure would have to involve the garage name since there is no activate default garage door button in the Rivian system now. We have to tap garage and then the name of the garage, even if it's the only one, to send the signal.

In that case, just say "Alexa, garage door <name> activate." Should be some way to train Alexa to recognize <name>.

Yes, but she doesn't recognize "garage door"
Correct! But why not? My premise was that there's an icon for it, so in my opinion a reasonable person might think that Alexa could be trained to recognize "garage door".

Also, I did have an integration working with Alexa & MyQ but at some point Chamberlain(?) removed the ability to open the garage door. For security reasons, IIRC.

I use a cheap Meross branded wifi garage door opener module from Amazon. Works great from the house and works great from the Rivian.

I use this but it works because I use it at home through alarm.com already. Have a left and right garage door she will open.

I just hate that I can't even program my neighborhood gate! Ug. It takes it but then that verification step fails after you point remote. So I have to pull out an old clicker every time in this new "high tech" car.
