After waiting 18 months we finally got the invitation for a first drive. In Minnesota on a low 80 degree sunny day. Our guide Erick was great. First impressions were favorable. R1S looks better in person than photos. We got the grand tour of the vehicle and were impressed. My main worries were step in height and the touch screen interface. They both pretty well turned out to be non issues. An intro, we own a Grand Cherokee and an Audi q7 both with low profile tires and air suspension. Pulling out of the park and onto the road we were very shocked at the coarse ride and suspension noise. I made sure we were in the all purpose mode and soft suspension settings. Ive owned many older trucks that rode better. To pay 80k plus and have this kind of ride not good. Did a follow up demo drive in an Audi q8 Etron similarly equipped and its a night and day experience. I realize these two vehicles have different capabilities and design parameters and maybe we expected something different. I wish the company well and hope they succeed Their vehicles just don't work for us

Are you claiming a jeep GC rides better? LOL

My S is much better than any truck I've owned including my current f150 and almost as good as the ride in our (former) GLS450. You should have played with the ride settings to find a combo you like.

It is very interesting how personal taste affects this. When I did our first mile, my main concern was ride quality after reading many comments here. We even drove it across railroad tracks at 50 mph to see (guide thought it was pretty funny when my wife hit the accelerator instead of the brakes as we approached). We were very happy with it. Compared to the bone-rattling POJ Silverado I used to own, or the 2018 Model 3, it is downright cushy and supple. Lol. And compared to my old Wrangler or Boxster or Subaru it is great. Compared to my old 5 Series... idk but I hated so much about that car that I only kept it for a year. Still, I think you should do you. The Q8 may be a great choice for you.

I think it is personal taste and how much you drive it. We have the R1T and my wife says it drives a little rough....not bad, but just a little rough. I drive it to work (145 miles) and it glides for me. We drive it in conserve mode. My wife is of 5' 1" and her main concern was how low the "kneeling" mode would go.....and she likes it.

Glad you were able to drive it and give it a chance. Best of luck with whatever vehicle you end up with......stay away from the Volvo XC40 Recharge. We had one and within 2 months it was back at the dealership for the exact same issue and part replacement. We sold it back tot he dealer to get the R1T.
