I trust them a lot and so do tens of thousands of Tesla owners.
Everyone has their own personal level of risk assessment. To me, the benefit doesn't outweigh the risk, but if you and others feel comfortable, more power to you.

Glad it is finally available for the RIvian so you can enjoy it on your R1.

Great app/data, just a tip - be careful how you provision it if you don't leave your vehicle plugged in especially with the vampire drain some already experience.

Rivian can’t track my car when it is driving. Can ElectraFi?

Is anyone making something like teslamate for the Rivian? I run in a container for the tesla instead of using teslafi.
I like TeslaMate. Can run in a VPS for $2 a month and of course you have complete control over your data. I used TeslaMate extensively when I owned my Teslas.

I am a former TeslaFi user and loved the reports so much I made my own version for the Rivian to prove I can still code. But if you go back to 2019 or so, the Tesla phantom drain was a huge problem and the TeslaFi people took steps to make sure it was minimized so hopefully that is the case with the Rivian. Not sure how this will be with the Rivian if it is keeping the vehicle out of a deep sleep by having the ElectraFi server constantly pinging it since it is a cloud server reaching out to the vehicle to grab the data.

Then for former Tesla owners I would temper your expectations since the Rivian API is pretty limited and there isn't much there that you can't see in the Rivian app. But maybe they found some new API endpoints like the GPS elevation so they can provide an elevation profile of a trip or am endpoint that provides the energy used so you can calculate the efficiency of a trip.

My version is an iOS app that records trips and charges and hopefully addresses some of the concerns raised here. I don't save the login credentials since they are stored in your iPhone passwords so can be easily re-entered if you log out (or should Rivian log you out).

To be respectful of any effect on the phantom drain I only connect to the Rivian API when a trip or charge is being recorded. Once the trip or charge ends the recording stops and no further API requests are made until you start to record a new trip/charge. All data is stored in a database you control, costs just pennies a month to create one on AWS/Azure/Google so. I just received my first Apple approval so it can be distributed via the Apple TestFlight app. But being a data geek, it is for iOS 17 so unless you have the beta iOS 17 on you device you have to wait until September.

And for the person with two (for more) Rivian's, I also support all the vehicles in the Rivian account but I can't really test it very well since I only have one.:(

And finally a shameless plug for the hand-rolled iOS app that is My Rivian, first up the trip overview and a detailed trip (still working on getting the elevation data from the phone to complete the trip elevation profile:

Rivian R1T R1S Electrafi (Teslafi) now available for Rivian 1691719420589

And the same for the recorded charges:

Rivian R1T R1S Electrafi (Teslafi) now available for Rivian 1691719568032

You even get access to the charing curve and other charging data:

I haven't used TeslaMate but my last bill for hosting three TVs, a pair of Mustang Mach-E and Rivian was $0.50, the cost is minuscule and the setup on AWS or Azure is equally fast.

i'm still confused what this tracks. we can see kWh used and efficiency on trip meters.

i am convinced there's an issue with my truck's power usage that rivian says isn't there i.e. a daily trip meter that starts at 70% will say 40 kWh and then charging back to 70% will show 55 kWh added. all it provide clarity and data i can share with rivian?

Of course, but worst case you'd at least have the ability to roll your tokens if a compromise is identified.
Isn't this the reason that ElectraFi recommends creating a separate dedicated account used only to authenticate with ElectraFi? In the event of a security incidient, I can just delete that user from having access to my car?

How is giving access to a separate, fully-privileged user account better than giving access to a limited-privilege user access token?
Of course you should always apply a principle of least privilege, but I still think the tool is providing a crude way of addressing your security concern.

As an ex-OpenBSD committer, I'm cursed with a healthy obsession over personal data privacy. I'm not trying to tell anyone else what to do with their credentials, but I think it's important to consider how and who you grant access. Presumably they've been doing this long enough and have been high-profile enough (with a very tech-savvy audience) that they've been forced to address the lowest-hanging security concerns. Regardless, I know how sloppy most companies are with my data, so it's important to me on a personal level that small / independent developers treat my data with the care it deserves. YMMV.
Pretty sure I know the answer already (unfortunately), but can we opt out of all tracking including by Rivian? Not a big brother fan at all, want full privacy and no way I agree to a third party.

Is this similar to Recurrent? It sounds similar.

As someone who loves data and whose career is largely rooted in software observability, I love the idea of collecting and analyzing this data. However, there's no effing way I'm handing over my Rivian credentials to a third party. I refused to do this for my Tesla when I owned one, and I'm not doing it for my R1T either. I know it's not "convenient" but these services should advocate for token-based authentication or first-party integrations.
Yep, that’s why I self host TeslaMate on a 24x7 Raspberry Pi4 for my data logging needs.
