Personally I'd rather see 800V and faster charging. The range is fine but the slow charging (compared to my Ioniq 5) is painful. 240 kW consistently below 70% SoC should be possible.

I think people tend to overlook that you're likely to charge to 10% less in the battery, so if you are regularly hitting 80-90% to get you between charging stations, you are spending quite a bit less time at the higher SoCs when charging where the rate gets abysmal. Of course we have yet to see the new charging curve, so definitely hard to say with certainty.
The rumour perpetuated by someone in the Rivian Chat is the payload will be the same between large and max. Which could mean everything is the same but there was a chemistry upgrade for Max pack. It also means that Rivian's cost isn't strictly a multiplier since the cost per cell could go up more than 16% over what they are paying for the Large pack cells.

You'd almost always want to just replace the entire pack, which isn't that much labor involved.
So if the Max won’t add weight, and actually increase efficiency over the Large Pak that would change my mind about switching to the Max. I may not be able to afford it though.

I mirror most of the comments here, in that I will not be trading up for a Max Pack.

But even moreso than all the other comments.
1- I won't rollover negative equity (That is, I don't see a scenario where I wouldn't spend appreciably more making this transition--even moreso than the 10k delta between the current options).

2- I've put a ton into my current R1T: PPF, Ceramic Coating, Windscreen protection film, Window tint. I have a few other things that can easily be transferred over (Splash guards, armrest tray, Interrobang tonneau cover, crossbars, spare tire kit, and rock sliders on order), but I'd lose the ~$6k I spent on paint protection and window treatments. So, that's a hard pass from me dawg.

Can you advise what product you used for the windscreen protection film? Thanks.

I would trade in my R1T for one with a higher top speed!

After waiting 4 years to almost the day I made my R1S deposit, I was kinda hoping that they would have waited the additional time for installing the Max Pack. I didn't even get the original interior I put on my order and had an additional wait to actually get my vehicle built this year. I am in remote rural area on the only highway north/south in Nevada and there are no chargers for 210 miles with steep hills and valleys in high elevation that gives me battery anxiety rolling into my driveway with 10 miles on the battery.

I changed out my 20"s for 22"s. That gives me nearly 40 mile more range. I was fine with 307 miles to begin with. I had the launch edition pricing, so the cost to upgrade is not worth it to me, just for added range.

I'd consider it if there was a paisley edition that did 0 to 60 in 2.1 seconds and still had a working powered tonneau cover.

I want my next vehicle to have a NACS port, an 800V architecture and a solid state or semi-solid state battery. I plan to keep my large pack R1T until all those things become available.

Nah, 300 miles covers my trips pretty well. If Rivian called me and said "we really like the scratches on your truck, we'll trade you for a max pack", then... probably. My tonneau hasn't worked for a long time anyway. But not worth the cost for me to upgrade.
Total no brainer here.
$10,000 cost aside, why would I want to add what’s likely 1/3-1/2 ton of weight, adding to diminishing return of tire wear, handling and acceleration compromise…. ?
It will likely eat up storage space unless there’s sone kind of miracle dust they put in the packs.
When deliveries were slow I suggested what Aptera is doing. Cut choices and FO-cus!
Aptera launch is one color one pack.

I would put off buying any Rivian until 2024. The rumor is some significant changes are in store.
….and then maybe they will announce a ‘25 with other bells and whistles.
We’ve had 35 cars, vans, RV’s, and MC’s.
Including 4 ev’s, plug in and regular hybrids.
After 16,000 very abusive work truck miles, plus several long road trips and routine grocery runs, we are convinced our launch T ( our very first pick up) is not only by far the best thing on wheels we’ve owned, but one of if not THE most rewarding, useful, and pleasurable purchases we’ve ever made.
If we waited for the latest greatest we’d have missed those 16,000 mikes and 17 months of service and joy.
This green beast has paid for itself many times over.
The Tonneau failed after a week and we don’t miss it at all.
We turned the rear glass into 50,000 fragments loading bicycles and SC replaced it for 1/3 of an approved body shop estimate.
Only pesky failures like the poorly made gate cap are bugging us.

So far from my understanding the max may not have gained any weight, some kind of improved density instead. Now I am on the fence, wish I could have the Explore QM back.

THAT would be one huge scientific history-making miracle!
Given no additional space nor weight is a serious breakthrough in the world of battery technology .
It will change the way our e-bikes work and look.
We are extremely piqued and want to hear more

I feel the same way about Arty, including the crappy gate cap that fell off while unloading a heavy object. Service replaced it under warrantee.

Higher Ah cells maybe, but digging deeper that does have some weight penalty like 100ish lbs.
All speculation at this point, not making my decision solely based on increased milage estimate.
