Official Max Pack ranges:

Max Pack 21 inch = 410 Miles
Max Pack 22 inch = 380 Miles
Max Pack 20 inch = 355 miles
Large Pack 21 inch = 352 miles
Large Pack 22 inch = 341 miles
Large Pack 20 inch = 307 miles

My Large Pack 20 inch Quad gets 284 Miles. That's 23 more miles on a 100% charge - or about equal to running on Conserve Mode with the quad. An extra $10k is a lot of moolah in the max for an additional 52 miles.

I'll stick with my paid for Quad Large, thanks.

I will not be trading up to the max pack or anything else for other reasons. With my current daily commute of 137 miles I have no choice but to stay with an electric vehicle (Rivian). Don’t like Tesla.
Now if they move me back closer to home and I don’t have a crazy commute, I will trade it in, but for a totally different car. I may go back to a Land Rover. The Rivian rides like crap imo plus all the cross wind noise is ridiculous for something that costs this much.

I'd appreciate some extra range with a dual motor max pack, especially for towing my Taxa RV for longer distances, but it's hard to swallow the price tag given that I was a pre-March 2022 preorder and got into my large pack quad for a relative bargain. And I sort of love my 20,000+ mile R1T with its still-functional powered tonneau (knock on wood), the PPF and tint, 12V power in the frunk, Meridian audio, and other little things. It's been in the shop for various issues (nothing super major) over the past 14 months and it's now in good shape. Feels like I'd been starting all over.

No yellow = hard pass. But for the price, I can't imagine many would benefit from this small increase of range.

As a pre-price-hike R1S customer, I’m not interested in trading in.

That aside, the +range is marginal compared to the +price.

my question is: why isn’t there a quad max pack option?

There will be. I think they have to rework some of the vehicle structure to achieve it though. I was thinking their shutdown for next year might be when they do that, but still not sure they would stack it so close to the dual motor release.

That option used to exist so it seems like they had an engineering path forward. My sense is that quads (max or large) will face priority pressure as they chase the bottom line or if price pressures cause a drop in demand.

When they put the quad endouro motors in I will upgrade to the larger battery as well. hopefully those equal around 1200hp so.

I don't see any point in doing so when the large pack is more than enough for my uses.

My next upgrade will come when we see major changes in Battery / Efficiency / Performance / Charging. Realistically probably after the warranty expires.

No, for the reasons pretty much everyone else outlined above.

I am good with current range of my quad. And I wouldn't want to compromise any performance.

I would put off buying any Rivian until 2024. The rumor is some significant changes are in store.

This is working on the assumption that max pack is limited to a chemistry change, and the pack thermals, charging profile, and voltage class (800v vs 400v) are largely the same:
If the decision was *only* quad large vs dual max, maybe. But going from you have the performance changes going from quad to dual which also comes with an EPA range of 352 miles. Which then punts me back to the question of whether ~58 miles when full is worth $10k. For those 10 to 80% charges that's only another 40ish miles? Less going above 70mph? At that point, why not go for dual large?

2024 seems to include architecture changes, but not stuff like quad enduro or 400v to 800v, or from what I've heard even a heat pump. Who knows, but from from a performance/range standpoint it doesn't seem like those changes are going to result in a big impact.
