So what are you guys/gals doing for vehicle access when you surf? I have just been throwing my wrist band in a rag in the truck bed after locking it, looking all inconspicuous. I'm not to worried about people rummaging through my truck where I surf, heck I would probably feel OK leaving it unlocked if the door handles didn't tell every passerby that my truck is unlocked and to "come get some". But since I have to lock the truck due to the door handles protruding, I'm at a loss for a better solution. My old F150 had a keypad which was CLUTCH. I surfed all summer without a wetsuit, so no zipper pocket for me, and I don't trust my board shorts to hold a card or band when I take a tumble. Oh and no way I am the wrist band in the water surfing, I've lost too much stuff in the ocean...

What do you think, go old school with a magnetic lock box?

I used the wristband while boogieboarding. It stayed on.

Oh man, I do miss the keypad on the Fords. Hands down the biggest feature I miss from my old truck.

Maybe bury a small lock box in the sand? :) Or if you're really feeling adventurous, you could lock everything inside, and then ask someone else to call/text someone else you trust with the app on their phone to unlock it remotely when you're done? I can only see a few dozen ways that could go wrong though...

Seems pretty simple to just wear the wrist band. I don't have the band so the keycard goes in shorts with zippered pocket.

I was bummed my DC didn’t have any wristbands. I like having at least one key on me at all times. My impression was that the wristband was both waterproof and secure. Is it not?

I admit, I am spoiled from having a model Y for the last three years. I got a ring early on from CNICK which is basically the guts of a valet key in bedded in ceramic or other material. I loved it so much I got a second one as a back up. Granted, I rarely found myself in a situation out in the wild where I didn’t have my phone, and or wallet with me, but I light knowing that I had a back up plan. Most often it came in handy when I would head out to the vehicle from my garage or whatever and I left everything behind and only realized it when I got to the door pillar. I’m hoping they get in the Rivian key game at some point

You could use car wash mode. Vehicle looks locked. Handles don't stick out but you have to press a corner to open like in the Model 3 and Y.

Try car wash mode in your truck. A big old graphic pops up telling you how to open the door in car wash mode.

That key ring product is a clever idea, I'll have to watch out for an aftermarket version for Rivian. Then again, I don't wear my wedding ring in the water because I've heard of guys losing it...just heard a story this summer of that exact thing happening, guy lost it the first year he was married in the ocean, doh.

Lanyard around the neck is a good idea, but I'd probably look like an Office Space corporate drone out there in my boardshorts. I did punch a hole in my keycard and tied a lanyard to it so that can be an option come winter.

Don't be bummed if you guys missed out on the wrist band. Although it is waterproof it's quite flimsy. Rivian decided to reinvent the age old watch band, just like they reinvented the age old door handle (you have to reinvent everything you know!), and instead of having a retention strap like a normal watch, it tucks under itself through the loop. Also instead of having a friction clasp it literally has just a pin to set the tension position. A single hard knock or tug and it will come off in the water and leave you stranded. Its fine for trail walks or runs as long as you set the tension really tight and keep an eye on it.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
NorCal here - always wearing a wetsuit, so easy place to stash a key card.

could just velcro it somewhere under the truck temporarily, I keep a card under the front near the suspension in case I lose my phone but I have to crawl under it to retrieve but it would be easier for surfing to have a much more accessable place to retrieve it and not have to worry about it coming off when driving

Given that the phone app gives full access and for most folks that is unlocked by facial recognition it would be nice if that was an opt-in option for the truck. I'd also like it if you could add a pin on the startup like a tesla. That way you could look into one of the cameras say one of the door mirrors while approaching to open and get in that then type in a pin to start the truck.

My guide told me he has a buddy that puts the key card in his wetsuit pocket. I asked about the wrist band, he said they don’t have that option right now?

Using a realtor lock box and put the key fob inside and locked it on the tow hook.
Had to remove the carabiner around to fit it in. Hiding it is a common surfer tactic but thieves may watch you.
For those wearing the key card around the neck - did you drill a hole in it ?

Get this - when I was younger I was out swimming in the ocean with a buddy who was married around a year. He lost his ring in the water, and didn't notice until we were back on the beach. We figured what the heck, we might as well go take a look. He found it on the bottom about 10-15' down and got it! What are the odds?! Flat sandy bottom with great vis helped :)
