Florida Registration Renewal

We renewed our Florida vehicle registrations yesterday. We were expecting a big cost for the Rivian registration as we had heard that Florida was implementing a $250 upcharge for EV's to offset the loss of fuel tax.

As it turned out, the R1T's tag was $260 for a two year registration. $130 per year is based on weight of the vehicle which is shown as 6,821# on the registration. Our 2020 Silverado 2500 was $155 per year based on its weight of 7,953#.

I guess that makes me good with my R1T until December of 2025.

Indeed, $260/2 years makes it affordable. Thank goodness for Florida's slow uptake and resistance to new things, if it weren't for the cheaper tags, registration, renewal, and sales tax exemption for military out of state, we wouldn't be able to afford the R1's. I'm working on taking delivery of our R1S I'm Oregon to avoid Illinois sales tax (IL and FL don't have reciprocity and IL charges it when delivered out of FL but registered in FL).

Not weight. All pickups that don’t have a permanently installed camper are categorized as commercial in CA. R1S are similar weight and are non-commercial.

Are you a disabled quadriplegic veteran firefighter's surviving spouse, or whatever the crazy long exemption is for some of the fees?

I got my renewal letter yesterday, $292 for 2 years. What are other people seeing?

I'm contemplating moving it to Washington state while I do my voter registration, but it's like $325 for a single year. I can do a lot of dumb things every year with $180.
