Once upon a time I wore a uniform and swore an oath to the Constitution of these United States.

I agree with your sentiments. At the end of the day, though, for me, it's about the people. I don't think of the 'country' as Trump or Biden or Blue or Red or our politicians or conglomerates, or big tech, or innovation. In fact, it's the polar opposite of them, and sadly I don't even think THEY see it.
It's the people, for sure.
Thank you for your service sir.

Its a hell of a lot better looking than the Hyundai Ioniq 6.. The CT and the 6 are battling it out for the ugliest vehicle on the market (or soon to be on the market)
Sorry, but if I'm spending 10's of thousands of dollars on ANYTHING, it should not be on any list that says "well, at least it's not as ugly/bad as xyz"
If it's ugly at all, IMO (my money afterall) I'm not considering it.

Rivians are gorgeous vehicles. The styling and design of them is a HUGE part of why I'm even interested.

The CT is, IMO, "odd" and "interesting" but I don't put it into the "ugly" bucket. I'll have to see one up close and personal to decide. But also it's just a totally different animal IMO than most vehicles. Not a truck, not a car, not a SUV... Not sure what the hell it is, or if I even like it. But it's intriguing.

The EV9 is obviously trying to compete DIRECTLY with the Rivian in the 7-seat E-SUV market. It loses, IMO, even at $10k less comparably equipped. I'd rather buy a Suburban/Tahoe, Sequoia, or Expedition, and pay for gas than drive the EV9.

Also I'm not convinced the EV9 is roomy enough in real world use. It appears to be slightly smaller than the R1S, which itself is probably borderline too small for my needs.

Cant disagree on this one.. Going to go test drive one (EV9) Saturday and I will see, as well as the EV6. Also going to go look at a Polestar 2 Performance/Plus/Pilot.

I dont think the Rivian is a beautiful, or even good looking, truck.. Its just OK for me. Of course its not the reason I am buying it.. If I was buying for looks, I would be looking at some 2 seat exotic thing like my McLaren I still kick myself for selling.

Being I have shop access I imagine I will have a Rivian before a EV9 or SilEVrado. I am ok with the SilEVrado as I really dont want one. They are to tall for me.

I test drove a Lincoln Aviator Black Label Grand Touring (its a Hybrid).. and It was a mixed bag for impressions. The seats are slightly better than a Rivian. They do have Rear Seat entertainment, and the one I looked at had a metal roof. The power was decent (but not Rivian level)... But the reviews are horrid. A lot of Lemon Law suits on this one.

800v though and half the charge time as a Rivian. 20 min vs 40 min. That's going to matter in the real world by quite a bit. Both cars can charge at about 200kwh. It's just an efficiency and battery size difference.

In 2024 they will be manufactured in Georgia. Decent chance they qualify for the tax credit.

Price is really attractive compared to other 3-row EVs.

Well, no, there's too much ugly, you have to use the Ugly 50 Gallon Drum ...

The EV9 has a nice interior, a slick "comfort option" that has reclining 2nd row:

Rivian R1T R1S Kia EV9 Pricing Announced 1696108900130

I'm waiting on the specs/announcement for the GT flavor, it should have the 6xx HP setup in the EV6 GT (and up coming Ioniq 5 N).

571 hp on the EV9 GT. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds

I have to admit.. I actually liked the EV9..... ALOT! Heads up Display, the reclining and massaging second row. The big disappointment was the Frunk.. TINY!! I think you might be able to put 2 six packs of canned soda (not bottles).. and that's it

I went all over the world yesterday.. and this is in order of how I progressed thru the day..
Kia EV6 - No, to small
Kia EV9 - Yes
Hyundai Ioniq - No, to small
Polestar 2 - No, to small
Polestar 3 - Meh
Back to the Rivian service center to mentally compare the EV9 to the R1S
Tesla Model Y - No to small
Tesla Model X - Yes, but no. I don't think I could open the doors in my garage, and I am not that smug.
Tried to get the the Ford dealer to look at a Mach-E, but the wife called me home

After visiting the Tesla dealer...I have a new hatred for Tesla. The people shopping and selling them, with their holier than thou attitude.

I tried to get in the first batch of the EV9 - but didn't make it through the website bugs.

I would have traded my R1S for the Kia in a heat beat. It's not that I don't like the R1S, I just think the Kia is better build for my needs/wants.

1. The seat will be better (Rivan has horrid seat for someone 6.1 and 250)
2. Android Auto - I'd be getting cop alerts and traffic that is more current than 4 hrs ago
3. Sat radio - I'd get radio close to the border (where I spend most of my time). Right now the cell keeps jumping and I get no service / no music way too often.
4. Proper thermal glass - Rivian's glass should have been FULL UVA/UVB AND IR - too much power is wasted with AC that can barely keep up.
5. No Glass Roof - too Worried about cracking it - and the heat issues above
6. ACC - that actually is Auto, Rivian can't seem to adjust for changes in light / outside temp. My SAAB 30 years ago had better ACC
7. Keys that work - PAAK is just WAY too buggy for my liking
8. Dealers - I don't like dealers for the SALE - but I liked having a dealer I could go to (and multi to choose from) for service.
9. $$$ - I could have sold my R1S for more than I paid, and put that money on the EV9.

I never could find anything about getting into the pre-purchase, or whatever, for the EV9..

Like you @Deadfish I am seriously considering the EV9. I am 6'2" at 270.. So ya!

The only disappointment I have, as mentioned above, the frunk is basically non-existant!

I think that the KIA EV9 is quite attractive and will make a great EV for some. I need a real truck with significant towing capability. Therefore Rivian is my cup of tea.

800v though and half the charge time as a Rivian. 20 min vs 40 min.
Curious how you arrived at the "half the charge time" comparison? 20min vs 40min for what amount of charging? How much range or KWh added? Is this really apples-to-apples?
That's going to matter in the real world by quite a bit. Both cars can charge at about 200kwh. It's just an efficiency and battery size difference.
200kwh is an amount of energy, not a charging rate or speed. I assume you meant 200kw.
If both can charge at about 200kw then the 20min vs. 40min comparison is wrong. 200kw is 200kw. If they both truly are at the same kw charging speed, the voltage doesn't matter. Higher voltage allows for higher kW charging speeds.
So unless the EV9 is twice as efficient, and thus adds twice the range for the same amount of energy added as the R1S, I don't see how this "half the charge time" comparison holds up.

Looks good at $55k but I think the range is going to be a problem for them. We'll see what the real-world range is. And remember to get the higher range, you get the weaker motor with 9s 0-60.

As for the top-end $75k .. another confirmation that it's hard to compete with Rivian even on any one dimension -- range, storage space, tech, on-road performance , off-road capability.

Thats debatable... At least they have a standard Android OS, with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Fair point, I take back "tech". Not something I care much about anyway...
