I really like the hitch solution. What worries me though is the liability as an owner of the resulting damage to the other vehicle (and occupants) during a rear end collision.

I settled on this from Rigid Armor. I bought it used from someone who had the Subaru CrossTrek version. Slightly off center to the passenger side, but otherwise fits like a glove. 3 mm of space from main body of hitch to bumper, and about 2 mm clearance to upper hitch locking mechanism with tailgate down. Took off-road for some mild rock scrambling and it was solid. I can post more picture in about a week when I put it back on for more adventures.

Ok. Didn’t find a working anti-rattle pin. BUT do have an anti-rattle locking solution that is working well now after a few failed attempts. What I landed on as my setup:
The result is rock solid and after a test drive today I’m very happy with it.

Also, to relocate the license plate I added the Thule license plate holder and used this trailer plug adapter to get the light working (thanks for that info @Si.LE.R1S in your thread on the DIY solution! Would have DIYed if I had more time before departing on an upcoming trip).

lol I knew there had to be an off-the-shelf lighted plate with a 4-pin. I searched every iteration on Amazon, hit AutoZone, o’reillys, and even U-Hual!

Gonna pick up the MasterLock, and return my small collection of failed hitch locks. thanks for posting!

The Thule is actually just like you built (2 pins used) and uses the ground and tail light wires for power.

Just got an email from Rigd Supply stating that their Rivian-specific UltraSwing is in development and they are officially starting to take preorders. Their pre-order price is $1699 and will have a lead time of about 8 weeks for the first batch of 25.

Little pricey? I’ve been happy with Rigid Armor. Can get similar one from them for $1100. I got mine used with fold down table accessory for $1100 (cross-trek version). My use case is occasional light off-roading (3-5 OnX). The hitch mount has been solid over 6 months.

I sent Rigid Armor the measurements from R1S and he said the Tacoma swing out version *should* fit. But they build each to order so it sounds like different parameters could be specified.

Are you using the carrier with OEM AT 20” wheels? If so, this hitch carrier may have the same issues as the eTrailer others have used earlier in this thread:

The eTrailer (and likely the Curt) will need spacers to mount the +48 offset of the Rivian AT wheels. See earlier in this thread around page 5 or click link post below

I needed a total of 2.5” of spacers to mount the wheel to the carrier (2” + 0.5”). You can just get spacers for the Ram 1500 5-bolt pattern or 5 x 5.5.

Thanks for the info. I may try and fabricate a spacer since it doesn’t need to be the same tolerances of a wheel spacer. a few tire mounts have sliding wheel holders to adjust for different offsets

Here's what I ended up with. You could use a smaller spacer, but having one with built in studs makes it much easier to manage the mounting hardware. This is just to hold me over until I find a better solution that's on the second-hand market.

What are your thoughts for the magnetic license plate holder? Repositioning to where?
Magnets should stick to the swingarm just fine, but the Rivian will need license plate bolts screwed into the tailgate. I also ordered the Thule plate adapter since it has lighting and pre-wired for the 4pin harness. I just don't want to give the police a reason to pull me over other than speeding.

Ended up trimming the Curt tire holder so the tire sits closer to the vehicle. I guess this setup hurts the departure angle some. Wish I could find a easy solution to turn on the Thule license plate lights without it turning on towing mode...
