I used this one for a lock with the included pin from etrailer. Need some additional nuts and washer to get it to work though. Not the most secure but kind of looks it..

Awesome!

And I have still had no luck finding a locking anti-rattle pin, and the spare tire lock that I bought doesn't work either. As far as spare tire covers, you can try either of these...and I have both:
https://a.co/d/bKZIq6J (my favorite and better quality; used for my original 22's in storage)
https://a.co/d/dSunYff (cheaper, lower quality...but used for my spare tire)

If you have any luck finding functional options for a locking anti-rattle pin and/or a spare tire lock, please let us know. Thanks!

Look at this company for the best hitch mount tire rack holder for the Rivian. They use a billet steel adapter for the hitch to make sure it is strong enough. https://dirtcomusa.com/ The owner of the company owns a R1T and knows how to build these racks for our Rivians.

Shoot. Found out first hand the issue with the locking pins. Tried the UHaul locking anti rattle pin and can confirm it does NOT work since the Etrailer is hollow but has a welded in sheath around the pin. Damn. Will continue the search!
Yep...that part ^^^^

DO NOT look to this company (Dirtcom) for a solution for an R1S. This thread is about R1S solutions. I placed an order around April 1, 2023 because the owner said it was in production for the R1S, and a few weeks later AJ said I'd receive it in May. It's now mid-September, they don't have an ETA, say design is not finalized for the R1S. I've cancelled my order with them.

Yep, he does, but guess what, what I stated about Dirtcom is the reality. I wish I was wrong.

If a larger spacer works well, would you please share a link to that spacer?

I just reinstalled everything, including the two 12mm spacers, and using some of the things 909phillyman shared. It’s definitely better, was easier this time, and I’m feeling much better about this solution.

I now bought 1/2” x 4&1/2” carriage bolts, expecting to add a 2” spacer, which are definitely too long for the current application. I’m using this to tighten the nuts and bolts in place:

Not to go too far off topic but how do you feel about the 1UP swing away? I bought the Kuat Pivot at REI that others are using here for hauling my Ubco but I find that the release level sticks really bad, it's possible I got a bad one but after I went on YouTube and watched some reviews on the Kuat and they were not great. Considering returning it and buying something else.

There seem to be a number of options, the Kuat and the Saris appear to be the same product but the Saris is a $100 cheaper as far as I can tell. More heavy duty options run at about $800 and have an unknown fitment. No chance I am going to buy a cheap one on Amazon.

That sucks I cancelled an order for another vendors product because of the same type of behavior.
I have an order out there with Westcott Designs link. I am about 2 wks into a 12 wk wait and will posted once installed. Emailed a bunch with their support and feel like we have a option that will work.

**when ordering you need to request - "extended & lowered base" in the comments

My 1UpUSA has been 'fine', or 'good enough'. It's version 1.0, and they've been selling the 2.0 for awhile now. Mine takes some effort / strength to swing away, and I'm a big guy; it squeaks really loudly. I asked 1UpUSA how to service / maintain it, so I've disassembled it, cleaned it, greased it, and it's better now, but not like new. Secondly, I've found that it wobbles on my Rivian, despite the anti-wobble mechanism; never wobbled on my FJ. The 1Up swing away fits differently in the Rivian's hitch; the exterior dimensions of said hitch may be bigger / wider. I may have overtightened the bolt of the anti-wobble mechanism, causing the threads on the bolt to get damaged, leading to the inability to tighten it, the wobble. The wobble / situation slowly worsened over the last few weeks. I have been doing a lot of driving on rough off-road trails.

I've ended up paying ~$50 for the replacement part. I haven't received it yet, but will compare the new vs. the old.

My email to [email protected]: "Hello. The anti-wobble hitch pin will no longer tighten, the pin / bolt just spins and spins. I’ve attached here two photos of the pin, trying to show you that the threads have been damaged. Potentially there’s also damage on the area of the hitch that receives the threads, but that’s even harder to capture in a photo. Possible to obtain a new hitch pin and any other parts to try to make this new again and function?

The pin has just barely fit in my vehicle’s hitch receiver, so is it possible to get a slightly longer pin? If you were to provide me with the specifications of the pin you provided me, then maybe I could find a slightly longer one on my own via a hardware store?"

Their reply:
" If the pin and/or bracket were damaged, those can be replaced here. https://1up-usa.com/product/anti-wobble-bracket-assembly

If you want to use a longer bolt the threading on this would be ½” – 11 thread count."

I REALLY wanted to go with Dirtcom, but also reached out and they were unable to provide a timeline at all as of last month. I need the spare for a trip next month so couldn't wait indefinitely.

Ok thanks. Not exactly a strong endorsement. I might try the Yakima Backswing and see how that works out. @wicked2112 any idea how well the Yakima Backswing works on a Rivian?

Thanks for sharing. Please do let us know how it goes. I assume that the 'extended & lowered base' is to customize their product to accommodate the Rivian's recessed hitch. Correct?

I would like to be able to use the Rivian's hitch to hold the swing away spare tire carrier, and for the swing away product to also have a functional hitch receiver such that I could at least use it for connecting / mounting my mountain bike carrier, and secondarily for me, potentially also tow. Seems like the Westcott product can accommodate this, with a pass through receiver tow hitch rated up to 10,000 lbs. Would you agree? (I had asked Dirtcom / AJ if such a customization was possible, months ago, but there's been no reply.)

That's a weird response considering the R1S tow rating is quite a bit lower than the R1T.
