HIGH Regen. Loving it!

Ever since I’ve had my R1T last March, I’ve been using the standard regen setting. Decided to try High this week, since the .38 update.

I’ve been really enjoying it! I think the high setting gives a lot more tactile driving experience. And the throttle seems to be more sensitive/responsive to the touch.

High recommend giving it a shot!

I agree. I started out using standard when I picked mine up in June, but switched to high about a month ago and like it even more.

I tried it briefly... I liked it, but switched back to STD out of concern for tire tread wear. With that huge regen available.. I'd be tempted to keep on the go-pedal right up till the last second then let regen save the day resulting in huge tire wear.

Now that we have the gauges I wanted to test if high regen leads to different front/rear bias than standard. Also concerned about tire wear.

I'm confused, why would it give extra tread wear? Don't you just feather the pedal to accelerate (both faster and slower) for whatever rate you want? It gives you the option for harder regen if you lift your foot completely, but I very rarely completely lift my foot off, and always aim for a gradual slow down, all in high regen setting.

I didn’t like the high regen at first. I found it kinda hard to slow down the vehicle smoothly. It’s stronger than Tesla’s regen. Switched back to standard but would switch to high from time to time trying to get used to it. Now I’ve been driving with high regen and loving it.

As I mentioned in my post.. I know I would be overcome by the high regen thrill and use it to it's max at all stops.. not feathering which can certainly be done even on high regen. Doing that is like jamming on the brakes 25ft before a stop sign at traffic light.. it will definitely wear out tires faster then feathering or using regen on standard. It's a "me" thing, not a issue with high regen.

Try this: turn off any music, fans, etc.. or anything else that makes noise inside the cab and drive to a quiet area. Then open the windows and get up to maybe 40mpd and completely release the accelerator pedal.. will you will hear the tires struggling to maintain a grip under those extreme deceleration conditions. That will certainly lead to increased tire wear.

When we took delivery of Opal (our R1T) in April, we started with standard regen. Within a couple of days, we switched to high regen and never looked back. We drive in high regen all of the time. We have also found that we don't have any problem switching back when we drive the Silverado.

is it just me or is the "High" regen not as high as it was prior to the .38 update?

I feel like i had to use my brakes for the first time yesterday....

also, for the month that i have had the R1S i don't think i have used my brakes once.... do you guys use your brakes from time to time just to exercise them?

High regen looks like it uses the same regen in front and slightly more than standard in the back. Low is even less in the back but front looks about the same. At speed, at least. Meaning Low will lead to the highest amount of front tire wear.

With high regen, the driver has more control over how fast the car stops, via the foot on the “gas” pedal. With control, the car stops effectively the same speed and tire friction with the ground.

In other words, tire wear with high regen isn’t intrinsically higher than with standard regen. It all depends on the driver’s action.

Personally, I’m a fan and really like the higher throttle sensitivity.

Switched from standard to high regen almost immediately. Probably on the 2nd or 3rd drive. Wanted to see the difference and found I liked it better.

My son noticed this morning so we tested out and on standard the rears were regening when it was a more aggressive stop, but on high, it was getting regular regen despite the stop level.

I couldn't get the hang of standard regen but when i switched to high it felt more natural. I figured it out on delivery day and haven't switched since.
