November 2020 preorder for the R1S, quad motor, large pack, ocean coast interior, 21" wheels, nothing extra beyond that. I'm also located in Chicagoland.

Jan 2023 the first estimates went it and we had a Mar/Apr delivery estimate. Cool.

Mar/Apr came and they revised it to Jun/July. All good, production delays happen and they are working through typical growing pains.

Jun/Jul went and no update. Then they say they will post new updates in August. Ok fine. August comes and goes and now my account is stuck back in processing estimate.

At the same time they announce some discontinuation of Compass Yellow and the bright wheels (not my config) but that maybe ocean coast is being discontinued in favor of ocean coast + dark wood trim only. Though I'm not sure actually if that last part truly materialized.

So I call my guide and all they say is that it looks like my account was missed in the August update but I should be caught up in the October update but as of now I'm awaiting estimate. I also asked if any ocean coasts are being produced yet and the first answer I got was that they already started production in April/May timeframe, then when that passed and my date when back to home processing I asked again and they said it's starting soon. I've also never seen or heard of a single person that has pure ocean coast so I'm speculating that none have actually been produced.

Now, I totally understand that Rivian is trying to figure all this out, and this is sort of expected growing pains. So I'm not the person that is saying, you told me Mar/Apr where is my car! But it just seems like this whole estimate is pretty much useless, I'd almost rather not have it because it gives some false hope. I also recognize that maybe it was accurate at the time and market conditions changed. At this point I just want to know am I getting a car sometime in the next year or not.

Mostly just venting a bit. It would just be nice to know and have Rivian tell me, if you want ocean coast that may not happen till next year (assuming that is indeed the issue).

Did you request or do you have shop access?

I would pick one up from the shop if you're in a hurry and swap wheels later once you wear them out.

Yeah I have had shop access since the start of the year. This car is actually my wife's car and she has her heart set on the ocean coast interior. I check the shop often and haven't ever seen a single one in any configuration.

It's less about getting a car asap, we can wait. Just this whole process of getting dates, pushing dates, back to jo dates and nobody really has any clear direction has been a bit frustrating as of late.

Like I said it's fine, just venting a bit for cathartic purposes.

I don't know for certain but that is my guess since I don't think any pure ocean coasts have been produced yet, at least not that ive seen. But my guide hasn't outright said that.

"Hey wife, look at this page of vehicles available to buy right now. It does not look like they built any with your 1st choice, so what is your 2nd choice based on what we are looking at on the screen?"

Click "Buy" on the one she selects.

:). I tried that. I said look how good this dark wood ash trim looks, basically the same, she didn't go for it. Actually her first choice was the light wood trim that was discontinued and so this was her second pick.

That light wood was my first choice too.

Waiting on an r1s
I'm right there with you, 2019 reservation holder with an estimated delivery date that keeps getting pushed back every month. I finally got fed up waiting and forced their hand by demanding someone higher up get a Vin assigned to me. They kept pushing the shop or waiting and I told them it was unacceptable to keep delaying the customers that were the earliest supporters. I think they will keep delaying us month after month until we make a scene.

Has she had a chance to see the dark ash in person? It looks really good in person with the ocean coast interior, much better than the original.

I am biased though as I prefer darker interiors.

Not Ilin person no. Now that the Chicago showroom is open we're going to head down there and take a look. She has always preferred light interiors but yeah maybe in person would sway her :)

Have you gotten any traction? What is your build. Like I said I suspect in my case it's just because they aren't producing ocean coast yet but I'm not sure.
