Poll: Operational Sun Roof

Would you like an option for an operational sunroof or some equivalent (e.g., removable panels)?)

No interest whatsoever. I rarely used it on my last vehicle and it eventually failed in the open position while I was 4 hours away from home and driving back in a torrential downpour. That was fun!

I would actually prefer no glass roof at all (operational or not), but I know I'm in the minority with that.

Maybe adding a poll would make this easier to show Rivian what you are trying to show them?
Good call, I just added one.

You might want options for:
No - Leave my fixed glass roof as-is
No - I want something solid for better protection (sun, security, etc.)
Yes - I want a more traditional tilt/slide glass sunroof with shade
Yes - I want something solid which can be removed or retracted for an open-air experience like Wrangler or Bronco

I’m probably missing some, but I think that would cover most people. Maybe?

I voted no, never use them, hardly ever had the shade open on most of my vehicles. Was fortunate to get the solid roof on my Model S before they switched to the glass ones.

Would have opted for the solid roof in the poll had that been an option.

The size of the glass on the R1S just seems like something they can't or don't want to make move. Lots of vehicles with the larger glass roofs don't open. I would take the electronic tinting option like on a BMW i7 or similar function though.

I think the variable tint (electrochromic?) sunroof glass was a feature on the concept vehicles shown in 2018 but it didn’t make it to production.

I was definitely let down by the removal of the removable roof option. I'd love either a sun/moon roof or removable roof panels like Jeep / Hummer EV1 offers.

I would prefer anything over the plain glass roof. Either delete the glass roof altogether or make it operational/functional (electrochromic glass, power sunshade, ability open, ability to vent, or removeable panels).

As is, the plain glass roof has more cons than pros.

I agree with you, but I know others like the fixed glass.

The last I saw, the Land Rover Defender (110 is a fair ICE competitor of the R1S) is available with a solid metal roof, panoramic operable glass sunroof with retractable shade, and webasto-type fabric retractable roof but NOT a fixed glass unshaded roof like we have as our only choice.

I am happy with it the way that it is. Over my lifetime, the vast majority of the vehicles i have owned have had openable sunroofs but I have not once ever felt the need to open them. The only reason I paid for the sunroof option on those vehicles was because I liked that it let in a bit of light.

Both my vehicles now have fixed position full glass roofs and I think it is a huge improvement. It trades an aspect that I never used to improve the aspect that I really like.

If the theoretical Rivian sunroof had just as much glass coverage as the current vehicle, then I would have probably ordered that option, but if it was a traditional metal roof with a (comparatively) small movable glass opening I am glad I don't have it.

I could go either way on being able to open the sunroof, but I do wish we had a retractable sun shade like my Volvo has. If glass roof was an option, I'd probably opt out.

The no open back window still blows my mind for a truck.
Agreed. I really would like to be able to haul a few 10' conduit / pipe sections home from my local big-box store without using a full roof rack/bed rack.

Agreed as well, another aspect of the 4Runner I would like to be included.

I used to live just outside Tacoma, but back east now. I hope to have a place in the PNW again someday.
