It's weird that it would be only 300 kW at 5 of 6 dispensers. Why wouldn't that 6th dispenser also be capable of 300 kW?
Yeah I agree it's odd but I noticed that the Tennessee location mentioned above lists 3/6 as 300kW and 3/6 as 215kW

I just ran through several stations and all of them had only 1-2 chargers listed at 215 (and the rest 300). Could it be the pull-throughs they limited? Maybe to try and encourage people to preferentially use the others?

Maybe it is a software version thing? Some of the chargers have the latest and some don't have it? I can see the advantage of updating only some of the chargers and not all of them so if something goes wrong you don't brick an entire location worth of chargers.

No. Brand new stations that opened a few weeks ago have the same setup. Must be a power sharing thing.

I'm guessing it's because when Rivian starts charging us for RAN they will open it up to other CCS cars. No reason to update the charging speed to 300kw when all Rivians can only charge at ~215kw.

The chargers are capable of 300KW, shared across 3 stalls. If only only stall is in use, maybe it can dispense 300KW, though that would be 750A at 400V. Are handles rated for that high of a current?

Agree re opening to other vehicles. CCS1 supports 800V architecture platforms which means more power at the same current.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when an Taycan pulls up and requests 300kW from the dispenser and another vehicle is already drawing 150 or 200 kW. The charging cabinets are shared between three dispensers at most RAN sites and the cabinet as a whole can only serve 300kW total.

Unclear how they will do prioritization between dispensers / vehicles.

There also is no DC power sharing between their charging cabinets, as far as I know.

The Huber Suhner cables can do 500A. The higher power rating is almost certainly for higher voltage vehicles.

Yes, I noticed this. By myself I was at 215kW, when another Rivian pulled up, I dropped to 150, and when a third pulled up, I was at 100.
Right, not that awesome. Tesla can dynamically move available DC rectification capacity between cabinets to help mitigate the effects of this. Would be cool to see other vendors catch up to this.

Same happened to me. That being said, if all 3 vehicles request 100KW+, that makes sense. Tesla advantage is that they can shift power across chargers.

I believe Rivian is hoping to get some NEVI funds for RAN stations. Any bids that make for that will require them to guarantee at least 150kW for every charger at those stations. I’m guessing that would mean just 2 chargers per box instead of 3 like they’ve done at most stations.

Had good success at Greenville, Blowing Rock, and Whittier RAN sites. Easy plug and charge. Fast charge. Free (for now). All were good locations.

Viva Chicken by the Greenville chargers was excellent. Highly recommend grabbing a meal there!

Side note: it was really chilly (30s) in Boone at sunset. We really appreciated being able to run cabin heat and seat heaters without idling an engine while we enjoyed the views!!

New RAN installations seems to be really slowing down. We are coming up on halfway through the quarter and only a handful of new ones? At this rate the won’t even match last quarters 14.
