Rubbing issues with EV1 R800 wheels

I have the R800 wheels with 275/65/20 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires and am experiencing pretty aggressive rubbing. Even in standard height if I hit a dip in the highway I will hear a slight rub. If pulling out of driveway or parking spot while still in kneel mode, it’s really noticeable.

now I did upgrade in size because my stock was the 22s, and I didn’t have anything recalibrated. But I’ve yet to hear about the recalibration changing anything in suspension settings. Plus, if I’m still rubbing on n standard height I doubt that’s my issue.

I contacted EV Sportline and they weren’t much help. They weren’t sure if calibration would help, but they said they’ve installed the exact whee/tire combo I have on an R1T with zero rubbing issues. I’m starting to think my truck may be “special” but I can’t seem to figure out the exact rubbing spot(s) yet. I need to dig in more. I really don’t want to downgrade in tire size nor do want to change wheels, but may have to if I can’t figure this out and/or clear the rubbing interference.

anyone having this issue with these wheels or similar aftermarket wheels? Offset is slightly more than stock, I know, but these were made to work on Rivian’s and EV1 offers them with the same tire I have.

Those are +18 or +28 mm backspacing aren’t they?

They’ll be pushing the whole wheel out 2 to 3 CM - can’t see how you’d avoid some rubbing.

Yeah +35. My main issue is that they’re made for Rivian, and manufacturer claims no rubbing with this setup. I also haven’t heard any other reports of rubbing with these wheels. Wish they just made them +48 but I’m already into them. Still feel like maybe my truck is unique. That’s my luck ?

FWIW I have those wheels and that size tire (Nokian Hakka LT3) and I haven’t noticed any rubbing yet but I don’t use kneel and haven’t driven in lowest. I also use stiff suspension.

I also don’t think calibration would change anything as you already concluded.

Tires with the same size spec (e.g. 275/65/20) can have different section and tread width. Have you compared the Falcon specs to the OE Pirelli or something else like a Bridgestone?

Alignment can affect rubbing also, especially in cases where you are giving up some margin by running a wheel with less offset.

True, and the Falcons are pretty aggressive, but that’s why I asked EVSportline if they had any issues with this exact tire (they sell this same tire as a package for these wheels). They said no. I’m sure if I used factory tires they would either not rub or rub less.

I also had Rivian do an alignment before I put these tires on, since I had excessive front tire wear on the original tires (previous owner seemed to do a lot of highway conserve driving, wearing the inside of front tires). Perhaps they adjusted too much?

I saw a couple other reports of rubbing with the R800s and 275/65/R20 tires. If I remember correctly the other reports were also from those that came from 21" or 22" wheels. Seems like someone should be able to definitively say if updating wheel settings changes suspension settings as well.

For what it's worth, under the right conditions, my truck would occasionally rub the stock 22's from a fast driveway transition at an angle. I have the same issue with greater frequency with a set of the 20" Radius +48mm wheels and KO2s. If it's every drive, I would start to worry about it though.

Probably important to figure out where the rubbing is occuring.

You should be able to see the rub marks in your wheel wells pretty easily I imagine? Until you get it figured out I would keep it set to stiff. I know there are quite a few others here with aftermarket wheels, some with offsets as low as +18 and they report no rubbing, so I doubt it’s the wheels since +35 is pretty close to stock.

I need to do some chalk testing to really see it. I haven’t been able to catch any marks yet

Check your PSI, try 65…see if that helps:

this tire tread is 9.4” wide on an 8” rim, you put it on a 9” rim and it now sits too far out and is likely hitting. Tread prob. Measures 10” now. Could have some issues on front when turning. Sounds like they got the specs correct only for narrow tires on that rim.

yeah I’m a bit disappointed in their wheel
Design in general, considering it was made for Rivian.
I’m at about 65 psi now, though has gotten colder so may need to bump it up. I’ll give it a shot.

I get rubbing when going over dips on the highway even without wheels turned.
