Yesterday, I ran into two people in Rivians. A guy in a R1T at Home Depot. We saw each other at a 4 way stop and he was waving his hand so energetically at me, it made me smile. Then 2 mins later, I merged onto the highway right behind the exact build of my R1S. We exchanged thumbs up and then when I exited the highway he was fist pumping in the air lol.

Those are the real Rivian owners...not the sniveling CT loving weirdos on this site.

How do you guys get other Rivian’s to wave back? Rivian’s are still very rare here in central Kansas so when my kids or I see another I we get overly excited.

Just chatted with Rivian Support and was basically told all affected VINs are getting cataloged. They have all-hands on deck between the US and overseas S/W dev operations focused on a resolution. Affected owners will either be emailed or called with updates, based upon your contact preferences.

My experience sounds like others here:
I can drive the car, get speed, mileage, and cameras when in reverse.

There is not info screen so I don't see a way to adjust climate. I didn't try to play music via my phone, but my guess is that wont work.

The big issues I see active right now:
1. No climate so if you need a defrost, what do you do?
2. Garage door opener doesn't work, so if you can't open your door manually or from a key pad, what do you do (e.g. condo unit with shared garage).

Thankfully, I was planning on working from home today, so I can live with this for now.

Do they have an automatic way of knowing which VINs tried the update and failed? I talked to customer service last night but didn't specifically ask them to log my VIN, but maybe they did anyway. What are others doing?

People say you can use the app to set the car’s temperature before you get in

I was livid last night, sitting in a parking lot at an ice rink at 10:30pm while snow is beginning to fall, afraid I'd have to leave my truck and take an uber home. I got home after about an hour of watching the truck constantly do all kinds of reboots and a solid 30 minutes on the phone with support. I was driving home in silence just thinking about how nice an iX would feel at that moment. I feel like I've cooled down a little on just how angry I am about this situation (and partially at myself for even kicking off the update), but I'm still on the fence about keeping this truck. It's overall a wonderful vehicle, of course, but these growing pains aren't getting better, they're only getting worse. I feel like I'm still waiting for this vehicle and Rivian to be "complete", but with every update that passes, and every service request, I feel like we're further and further from a smooth ownership experience. It's quite tiresome. I love my truck, and no other vehicle currently available can match it, when it's working...but it's still just so frequently not.

I asked if they had visibility on which were affected and the rough answer I got was they're targeting every VIN that was assigned the first wave of updates, whether it was applied or not.

Sell your truck. Why do you drive something from "an embarrassment of a company"? Why is it worth the aggravation to you? I had a car I hated a few years ago you know what I did? I sold it within 6 months. I didn't piss and moan about it on the inter webs, I just went to another dealer and traded it in. Even that dealer didn't need to hear about how much I hated that car, they didn't care.
I'd sign up for early access to updates at a risk of having a totally undrivable vehicle periodically. IMHO, if that doesn't describe your attitude on the updates, you shouldn't slap the install button the moment it pops up before anyone else has been able to report back on things. The more frequent the updates, the more chance something goes wrong that got missed in testing.

They can query every vehicle for what version is currently running on it. I would be surprised to hear that there were people that updated successfully. This really sounds like they borked the update for everyone that received it.

It was a 100% failure rate for those who did the update. Cert keys were incorrect

Looks like the phone app still work for preconditioning and open the frunk/tailgate.
when I get in, I can hear AC going. The truck can still drive.
I’ll pull out the camp speaker for music then.

Overseas sw devs? I don't like the sound of that. It does shed some light on the disconnect however...

Dude… really. Good software development is pretty global now and if companies aren’t utilizing developers 24/7 somewhere in the world, it’s considered less competitive.

Rivian has a strong team of developers in Serbia.
