@EV Sportline for the bluetooth to work between the carplay device and the R1, does the phone need to be bluetooth-disconnected from the R1?

In other words, does Rivian support multiple concurrent bluetooth device connections? If so I’m curious how the vehicle knows which device to stream audio from?

Or is it that the phone is what’s connected to the vehicle and the carplay bridge device only connects to the phone?

mount is rock solid. I'll do some more offroad bouncing and report back, but the mount is not plastic :)
Thanks for checking that out!! Also if possible please add some more visuals of the mount and mounting in your upcoming installation video to get a better understanding of how it is mounted.

no, phone stays bluetooth to the truck. It's slick. phone is also connected to our screen at the same time.

So the phone is audio streaming to the vehicle and video streaming to your device. Nice. I didn’t know it was possible to split the bluetooth audio/video that way.

Wireless CarPlay actually works over wifi. It only uses Bluetooth initially to start the connection but the data streams over a Wi-Fi Direct connection. You’ll notice your phone not connecting to your home wifi anymore once it starts a wireless CarPlay connection. The connection is “hidden” on your phone (doesn’t look like it is on wifi, but it is using the wifi chip to connect to CarPlay devices).

@EV Sportline - thanks for putting this together. as I look at this thread and the FAQ, I have one question I didn't see answered: what is the behavior during a phone call?

let's assume I have this set up and generally keep it on all the time. my phone is wirelessly carplaying to the screen; the screen is bluetoothing to the Rivian... I get a phone call...

what microphones are going to be used for my voice?

is the audio going to be bluetooth straight from my phone to the rivian?

or will it be handled by the carplay interface, and thus bluetoothed to the rivian from the carplay screen?

is there delay/lag in the call?

is it seamless?

if i was listening to spotify from the rivian native interface, and i get a call, do I need to manually pause the spotify audio to take the call?

thanks.

Based on the previous answers, your phone stays bluetooth connected to the vehicle and would continue to operate the same as before, with the added benefit of also seeing the call on both the Rivian screen and the carplay screen.

For me this isn't any different than just using my phone mounted to the dash. I appreciate the effort and I am glad it is available for those who want a large screen solution for the lack of more effective mobile integration with the Rivian, but I will keep using my phone as navigator until the Rivian Infotainment system gets better.

I signed up for an early adopter experience, so I am patient; still the desire is there to have a more mature infotainment system that offers an experience close to CarPlay or Android Auto. For example, they should provide SDKs for key apps and insist on data sharing when in use. That can be negotiated I am sure, and if not, then I will wait.

But they are losing ALL of the data from drivers who are using their phones as their main devices in the car and ignoring Rivian's current tools.

Overall, it looks like a great solution for lots of folks out there who really appreciate CP and AA.
For this reason, I almost never open the Rivian navigation app...that's my way of showing them how useless it is - by never using it.

Tempted by this but waiting to see how responsive the display is, and any odd pairing behaviors. I had a CarPlay retrofit on my old Volt and it was very buggy, so I have a bit of CP-PTSD (no fault of EVSportline obviously). Would be nice to have Waze for on road and OnX for off running on a large central screen.

Once the product ships and is in people's hands, we should start seeing reviews. When I receive mine, I plan to create a dedicated thread, titled, "JEBINC's review and installation tips for the EV1 @EV Sportline CarPlay/Android Auto Display" .

Coming soon, I hope!
