Once the product ships and is in people's hands, we should start seeing reviews. When I receive mine, I plan to create a dedicated thread, titled, "JEBINC's review and installation tips for the EV1 CarPlay/Android Auto Display" .

Coming soon, I hope!
Looking forward to that review.. are you a AA or CP guy? I got's to know ?

How does the power tap work with the new .42 update? I have a similar product from another vendor powered by the 12v socket under the dash. With the most recent software update the car wakes up and powers on the 12v plug periodically. When this happens and I'm in the house, my phone pairs with the CarPlay device and disconnects from my home wifi.

This was my experience with one I had tried from Amazon back in April so I don't think its new to .41/42 other than the truck is waking up a bit more than it did on the last release.

What's changed is the frequency of it happening (by a lot). I used to be able to leave my CarPlay screen plugged in all the time, but now (because my bedroom is over the garage) I have to unplug the screen when I park for the night or my phone turns on as it connects to CarPlay multiple times a night.

Our bedroom is above the garage also. I will be using a 12 volt adapter with a switch so I can turn it off at night.

Hmmm - aftermarket can't control what the OEM may change, via software, in their vehicle. Given this development, it may be best to use the in dash (for those that have it) 12v "cigarette lighter" port, rather than the fuse box tap? This way, it's easily disconnected. Another fix is an inline switch.

Lastly, I forget, but I recall @EV Sportline also saying there is an on/off switch on the display. What I don't recall is if the unit "stays off" thru various Rivian sleep-wake cycles?

guys, it works fairly flawlessly. If someone has some weird Rivian wake/connection issues., just pull the power plug out of the device if desired....simple. It's just a USB-C cord on the side. Like unplugging your phone.

Rivian Nation, we've been working on this one for a while! Finally launched today just in time for Black Friday!

1 - plug and play (DIY install), no cutting or splicing or permanent mods!
2 - no tape or scewing mount to dash; patent pending design locks into factory dash!
3 - does not use any USB-C or cig lighter ports! plugs directly into fuse panel above driver feet / under dash
4 - full CarPlay (wireless) connection, run Waze, Google Maps, etc - and play music through Rivian audio

Has anyone installed the screen below the air conditioning vents in the center of the console?

These are not shipping yet, but I did do that with my cheap junkie Chinese one. May explore that when this one arrives. The designed setup is a good one, I just like trying other options. Will post thoughts in my, “JEBINC’s review of…” thread.

I also have my current Chinese one installed there too. It's too low down there IMO - that's the reason I ordered this one.

I had a cheap chinese one mounted low also. It had connection issues so I sent it back. I just have my phone mounted to the dash but the steering wheels covers most of the screen. I am having trouble with the look of the 3rd screen on top of the primary screen. I don't think it looks good.....but still considering. Would be nice to hear my text messages

I’m going to try it; I think there’s more to like than not! I will post all my thoughts and installation tips when I do the review thread.

Personally I believe CarPlay is far superior to just using your phone. The entire interface is bigger and designed for use in a car.

You are not just using phone apps that are made to look bigger. The apps are designed for use within CarPlay.

For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts. I use the app Overcast which is very good and it has a CarPlay app. When I get into my car I have quick full control of Overcast from CarPlay. All my podcasts are organized and I can easily start playing any of them and they resume from exactly the spot where I left off on my phone.

Rivian wants me to use Spotify or Amazon or some other BS to listen to podcasts. If I were to do that it would not sync with Overcast and each podcast would start from the beginning regardless if I am in the middle of it. I am forced to use their limited choice of crappy apps.

A similar analysis could be applied to dozens of other apps that are designed for CarPlay. Having completely separate apps on your car and your phone is ludicrous when something like CarPlay exists.

Implementing CarPlay would be trivial. Not including it is 100% driver hostile There is zero benefit to the driver by not including it.

I understand there is a business argument to rejecting CarPlay. That is to try to make money off their own system. It is a completely stupid argument, but I guess that is a matter of opinion.

I have an F150 lightning. CarPlay is fantastic. My wife has an R1S. The built in navigation and other apps is BS. There isn't even a button to activate Siri on a bluetooth connected iPhone.

I have an R1T with Max Pack still on pre-order. I absolutely will not proceed with that purchase without CarPlay. But I might consider it if it did have CarPlay (but I do love my Lightning).
So, If this device from EVsportline works and resolves the Carplay question, do you plan on getting the R1T or it has to be native? If so it will never happen and I like the fact UI is clean on Rivian and TESLA (I have both), but I can add with Ease the option to my taste.
