That is very disappointing IMO. It just as loud and stuttery as the original. What happened to the "improved" powered tonneau RJ showed off on instagram back in may that was quiet and smooth?

I'll be honest, if this is what folks with original, broken tonneaus get but folks with new R1Ts delivered with powered tonneau in 2024 get something different (like the one shown in RJ's video) that is going to be messed up.

Edit; adding instagram post from May:

On a side note, RJ's shoes are so weird. And her shoes also - very strange, yet athletic and powerful. I found myself distracted by their shoes when I should have been awed by the panel pouch.

Just picked up my truck from getting the new updated powered tonneau cover installed at the Denver service center. They said they went to normal to watch them test the cover and that engineers poured sand into and on top of the cover and it ran with no problem.

They said it was the 2nd ever updated install and they ran it 20 times with no issues or weird noises before calling me to pick it up. I think it works and sounds much better now! The slats don’t sound like they are bending and fighting each other and the motor isn’t getting as bogged down.

Updates:
Still just One motor
Updated spring system to prevent panels from getting out of alignment
Updated bottom panel system
Reinforced interior and gearing
Something internally to help keep slats/gears clean

Yeah, that’s the old tonneau. No way that’s the new one. Something is amiss.

Glad to hear. So far, knock on wood. my original has continued to work fine. I do grease the slides every few months. I also keep my truck pretty clean most of the time. Whether that's made any difference, who knows? I don't open it if it's covered in dirt. Naturally, the dirt goes in and has no way to come out, so I just try not to let it go in to begin with.

I will look forward to the updated version so I don't have to worry about it each time I open and close it.

hmmm, so same single motor, which explains why it sounds the same. whatever they did change, i hope they tested it thoroughly. it having similar sound as before doesn't inspire confidence since they said the new design was much quieter and smoother. also makes you wonder why it took so long to get these out if there isn't that radical of a design change.

curious why your cover is wet when the truck looks dry?

example of original cover. maybe the new one does sound slightly better?

Who knows...maybe new production will be different than updated existing?

Does anyone know if the cover has a published load capacity? I'm thinking if you wanted to stand on it to fix a gutter or something. Or would you have to try to balance on the bed sides and hope you didn't accidently step on the cover?
Personally I'd rather lay a 2x6 across the bed sides and stand on that rather than risk damaging a tonneau even if it was confirmed that it could handle my weight. Or, use a ladder ?

I still haven't had the urge to stand on top of my tonneau, despite how popular it seems to be on this site

Good note, I'll make sure to never do a video in my Compass Yellow Ons

That's what my OG one has sounded like since day one.
Donald, pardon my “less-than-one-week-of-R1T-ownership” ignorance, but what is an “OG one”? Googled but couldn’t find anything. Thanks!! Ohm Boy

He means the first generation of the powered tonneau that came with Launch Edition R1Ts.
