I doubt I'll keep the screen forever so I don't want a weird gap under the pad once I take it out. On a positive not, the unit appears to be a rebadged Carflix/Lamtto display which seem to have pretty good reviews. Those only run about $90-$100 but don't include the wiring or custom mount.

I used a bent piece of 20 gauge tie plate to mount my screen in my diy set up. It's cheap and super thin and slides right under the dash without causing a bump. This is either an early vs later VIN design update thing, or vehicle to vehicle variation (maybe less likely this given how drastic the difference is!). In any case, great to know and I hope when I check my truck tomorrow that it looks more like yours.
I like this! Ideally, one that can be fashioned to the exact length - so you don’t have.a bunch of unslighty wire to deal with. Does such a thing exist? I will take a measurement later and will post that here

There's no need to remove the screen. You should be able to gently lift the top part of the dash with a trim tool and slip the wire underneath if the it's thin enough. You can then run it across the left of the dash and route it around the driver's side door trim.
