The point was to compare the “low battery SoC charge rate”. Many people (myself included) assumed that the Max Pack would be able to sustain higher charge rate longer than the Large pack.

Obviously this is just one test, but it is disappointing to see that it drops maximum charge rate earlier than the Large pack. It isn’t a huge difference in the amount of time they charged for, so we’ll have to wait for more/longer charge curves to know for sure. But it does reinforce that I won’t be “upgrading” any time soon.
I'm a max pack owner and certainly notice the effect of cold weather here in Maine coupled with driving at the speed limit, 70 here in Maine.in two words "eat KWH". Wondering if these two factors crush the relative/performance advantage of the max pack. Though OOS video is pretty thin gruel on that respect I wonder if these factors are at play. Though i paid only $7K more, still like the idea of north woods excursions with less range anxiety in a charging desert!

Kyle's video are usually informative, this one was a big "so what?". He could of summarized this dubious test in 3 minutes. Max is about initial range, full stop. The bit about normal road tripping about driving over 80 in the middle of the winter is a bit of a stretch for us east of the Rockies.
I'm curious why you're so negative on this video when I think it's objectively interesting to see how the new battery pack charges compared to the old one. If that isn't interesting to you, it's kind of weird you bothered to watch it in the first place. I'd say a larger capacity battery (that costs $10k extra) actually charging slower than the large pack is interesting and worthwhile for them to determine. Maybe Rivian will change the programming to hold higher current for longer, but it's interesting that it starts higher than a large and then derates.

Don't waste your time. A completely pointless 45 minute video that says next to nothing.…
OOS. That is the point.

With a sample size of 1 I'm still waiting for more data :)

Then don't watch. Youtubers make their money off of ads, and the longer the video, the more ads. I appreciate OOS content and find it informative.
I don’t, exactly for the reason you outline. Content quantity does not equate to quality. It’s bloviating.

Not that I’ll spend time finding it, but there’s got to be a better balance between eyeballs due to quality vs sheer length of videos for the influencer career path.

As mentioned before in a different thread. Max pack gets a lot more miles at city speeds. Highway range is somewhat improved, simply from more kWh in the battery.

I still want to see the charging speed/curve, ie kwh per 30 min. From previous examples, this seems to be where max pack improves significantly over large pack:

No great surprise everything was about the same. Really don't understand the point of this at all. Watch if you must but it really is 45 minutes of pointless talking.
You don't know until you test. It did reveal some interesting things about the charging curve of the max pack.

true. 1 vehicle of each and 1 trial. Hopefully others will do a similar test so we can see if the results are consistent with OOS’s.

I took delivery of 2024 R1S Max Pack yesterday.

We drove our 2023 R1S Launch (S/N0004) 134 miles to Rivian.
Both 2023 and 2024 have same tires, Pirelli Scorpions, great in the winter, but are soft and wear out quick.
We returned following each other, changing at times but no drafting, half highway and half rural.
Both are in all purpose mode as we didn't change the 2023 quad motor to Eco mode.
Roads were wet, raining most of the time. Temp 45deg.
While I didn't reset the trip meters I happen to take pictures of the screens and had...
2023 Launch 82% 229mi down to 27% 74mi
2024 Max 97% 351mi down to 49% 177mi

Everyone's needs are different. Mostly I don't need the extra range but having a house up North that at times, range left can get pretty low especially if using it before the trip and in heavy snow. If I pull a trailer up there I have to plan a stop and charge for sure. Certainly compared to the quad motor large pack, the dual motor max pack gives us extra range needed for no question non-stop trip and therefore a winner for us.

My initial observation after driving it 134 miles... It seems quieter to me, both road, air noise and motor hum. The accelerator seems a bit smoother. The automatic rear motor disco nice as I don't use ECO mode in the quad motor as I tend to spin the front tires on takeoff.

One thing to consider is battery degradation and resale. Batteries loose range over time and having that bit of extra range won't hurt four to eight years down the road. It’s not going to be worth that much more at the end of the day, but it’s certainly going make it more desirable and perhaps even keep it longer.

I wanted to give the dual motor a try, and you can only do a max pack with dual motor so I went that route. For me going max pack is unquestionable with dual motor but the the bigger question is should I have stuck with quad motor. Will dual motor effect tire wear.

After driving Max Pack and my range upon return, I'm super happy with it so far.
