Software Update 2023.50 -- Scheduled battery preconditioning & other useful improvements!

Wonder if this is me? Vehicle started waking up in the middle of the night - I could see it turn its lights on on my household security cameras. Rivian support was clueless. Said I'd need to bring it in (in a month, was the next available service appointment). Told me for whatever reason they could not look at the logs for why it woke up remotely. ?

Maybe there is some confusion about release numbers? I’m pretty sure that the 2023.50.1 update is a bug fix after Rivian started testing 2023.50.0. The 2023.50.0 update, on the other hand, includes many features not present in the last release, 2023.46.0, as stated in the first post of this thread:

Nope, there are different release notes for 50.0 and 50.1.

50.1 notes have more features 50.0.

One of the most exciting sounding features was the possibly reduced vampire drain. That is in the 50.1 release notes but not in the 50.0 notes. The changes to the battery overheating warning are also not in 50.0 but are in 50.1.

Yep, it's not a bug fix but another version where they added more features.

• Improved the warning zone for the motor temperature gauge to take into account vehicle pre-conditioning, especially in cold weather conditions.
• Fixed a very rare issue that impacted charging at cold temperatures for some vehicles with large-pack batteries.

Getting off-topic, I’ve noticed that the structure of the forum with linear posts doesn’t always lend itself well to the kinds of discussions we have. There tends to be a lot of repetition: questions asked multiple times and answers (sometimes conflicting) being given multiple times. I think something like a wiki would probably help us with a summary of questions and known-good answers. I’m not sure that’s the right answer, but I feel like there is a better way. I’m not exactly sure what that answer is and whether it would do more harm than good to the business model of the Forum even while assisting members.

I'll be interested in the blending braking implementation. Hopefully it *doesn't* trigger trailer brakes; towing with my Model Y (especially at low speeds) was a nightmare because the trailer kept braking every time brakes blended in during low speed regen. I think this was due to a third-party brake controller so Rivian should be able to do something smoother here.

Large Charge Marge got her upgrade last night right before bed (1/10/2024). I noticed a lot of downloading from Amazon Cloudfront on my router for Marge's ip address earlier in the evening and figured it was imminent.

Love the reverse throttle mapping already. It’s been a year and a half of barely tip toeing in parking lots and backing out of my driveway everyday. Kind of wild it took 1.5yrs!

Reverse is much better this week after updating to 50.01. It used to be quite jumper and too sensitive to lifting your foot. As a good side note regarding Rivian support: I got a call from Rivian on 01/12 offering to schedule me for a mobile service to swap the accelerator pedal because of the recall. I thought it was part of a software update but he said no it is hardware issue. I also asked for a tire rotation and they will do that too at my house. I’m in San Jose, CA and only 30 mins from the closest service center. They will be coming on 01/22 so only 10 days out.

If Rivian could reduce the auto-braking force in reverse that would go a long way too for precision backing up.

I noticed this morning driving to church in -4 degree weather, the motors did not overheat to dump it back into the battery. The battery started at 40 degrees and by the time I made it to church approximately 14 miles away the temperature was 44. When leaving church I turned off the Regenerative Braking Assist and motors promptly began to overheat to warm the battery.

I did not schedule a departure this morning to see how much preheating of the battery would be done.
