Now people are talking $65K? Once you add Destination fee, Doc fee, Order fee, Registration, every other fee and tax that's close to $75k... and that will not help Rivian sell vehicles.

This iteration needs to start at $49,999 or lower to get off the ground, Rivian does not need another $75K offering.

I think the version that will be targeting the $40k starting price is a FWD single motor. With today's costs, I don't see it any other way. The R2 AWD will probably top out just under $70k, or slightly over.

^ if they leave off the $$$$$ stuff like air suspension, glass roof, Brembo brand brakes, Bosch motors, huge battery pack, large expensive tires and wheels, etc.. they can instantly cut a lot off the top.

I would expect the ar2 to be like a Grand Cherokee, Passport, or Edge - a larger two row SUV. Then the R3 would be a compact Escape, Cherokee sized vehicle.
Grand Cherokee is already a 3-row SUV in the "L" trim and it's very close in size to the R1S. It's actually a few inches longer than an R1S.

I hope it is essentially a Bronco EV.
A removable/drop top would make us drop our Model 3 and go full Rivian...

I’m surprised by all the responses with crossovers. If Rivian makes the R2 more like a crossover as opposed to a proper SUV, they will still sell a lot of them but I think they will dilute their brand identity. The electric crossover space is getting crowded. Rivian needs to hold on to the adventure aspect and make it mean something.

I see a lot of comparisons to Grand Cherokees and Defenders. That would be great but the truth is those SUVs are similar in size and capability to the R1S.

People are talking about size but I also wonder about this with regard to function. At a lower price point, can Rivian can satisfy both the sport track crowd and the off-road crowd?

In other words, is the R2 supposed to be a 4Runner killer or a Model Y killer, or can it possibly do both?
Right, it is a combination of size and ground clearance.

It will be minimalistic to keep the price down. CRV size or smaller. Two or single motor. With some new quirks to keep the "Adventure" theme.

The sub $50k version can target Model Y.

And the $75k version can target 4Runner/GX 550.

There shouldn't be a huge price gap between loaded R2S and base R1S.

Rivian is not going to have two dozen plus models like many legacy OEMs anytime soon, maybe never. It can't have narrow focused models.

Definitely not, based on the covered image we've all seen. Its much more of competition to Highlander-class of SUVs.
