I see a lot of comparisons to Grand Cherokees and Defenders. That would be great but the truth is those SUVs are similar in size and capability to the R1S.
The GC-L is slightly longer than R1S, and for intended market segment, R1S and Defender compete in the same space.

For R2, it is much more like Discovery or X3 sized vehicle, based on what we've seen with the cover on.

Definitely not, based on the covered image we've all seen. Its much more of competition to Highlander-class of SUVs.
Who knows if that’s the actual shape or just a mule car. We will find out in a little over a month.

The Discovery is close in size to the R1S unless you are referring to the Discovery Sport.

I would expect the ar2 to be like a Grand Cherokee, Passport, or Edge - a larger two row SUV. Then the R3 would be a compact Escape, Cherokee sized vehicle.
Then I want R3. I want something really efficient, commuter friendly; but still ok for monthly outdoor trip for 1 person.

Grand Cherokee is already a 3-row SUV in the "L" trim and it's very close in size to the R1S. It's actually a few inches longer than an R1S.
Yes that is the relatively new L which is different to the standard Grand Cherokee - my analysis stands

Different? Only in length and 3rd row seats. Otherwise, completely identical. The Cherokee is the smaller Jeep... it's a completely different model.

My guess is that the R2S will target something similar to the Bronco Sport. Maybe just a little bit bigger, but close to that in size and capability.

Q5 / Macan / X3 sized.
A base Macan is 63k (base Macan EV is 80k). If the R2 is near that size and around $65k loaded that's a winner.

Man if I could get a RAV4 size R2 AWD with 325-350 miles at 60 AND the 7500 tax credit in full? SIGN. ME. UP.
Yes they will be very popular and profitable for Rivian.

I'm also hoping for a RAV4 equivalent in terms of build quality and creature comforts. I own a RAV4 and if RIVIAN can capture even a mediocre slice of that market they will do very well for themselves.

Regarding the styling, I'm one of the folks here that like the Bronco aesthetic, so if that ends up being the look (with various RIVIAN signature components, head lights, light bar, etc) I'd be pleased as punch and would probably put myself on the pre-order list right quick.

The sub $50k version can target Model Y.

And the $75k version can target 4Runner/GX 550.

There shouldn't be a huge price gap between loaded R2S and base R1S.

Rivian is not going to have two dozen plus models like many legacy OEMs anytime soon, maybe never. It can't have narrow focused models.
there absolutely should be a large price gap between R1S and R2S. R2 is not a refresh. They are trying for a mass adoption vehicle (and they aren't even close with the R1 pricing (similar to Tesla starting with the S and X, then developing the 3 and Y (at around 50% of the price) for mass adoption. Pay attention....

I think Tesla did it wrong with keeping the S and the X priced so high that it’s a huge price gap between a S/X and a 3/Y. Some people just want a larger car and an S/X isn’t that much bigger than a 3/Y But they cost twice as much. Elon even said they only make the S and the X at this point for novelty purposes, hence they are such low volume vehicles that it really doesn’t add much to the companies bottom line.

Was chatting with my service manager and speculation was that the r3 will be more of a fastback / coupe-suv type of vehicle..

Think audi q6 or bmw x6
