It feels cold back there but the icons in the 3rd row look different from the icons in the 2nd row. So I’m not supposed to get AC back there?

I think it’s just a duct that blows air around the back. The heating and air conditioning duct does not go all the way to the third row, but the fan helps ventilate the inside of the vehicle and de-stratify the air.

Do other third row suvs follow this setup? Find it strange that you can’t get heat or cold air in the third row.

Third row recirculates Air from car. No separate heat pump etc. but you do have fan control.

Higher end 6 figure luxury vehicle’s may offer specific temp control.
My vans all had third row but it was split into front and back climate zones. No additional third row controls (including no fan)

The gx470 has vents and ducts that go through the ceiling and the three zone. Driver, passenger, rear

Is it normal to have the third row vents turn off whenever you leave the vehicle? I always have to turn the vents back on when I get back in the vehicle. The middle row and front row settings will stay as is but the third row shuts off.

Yes mine is the same, I have to turn it on every time when the pups are back there.

They do work well to keep the back cool in the hot weather though.

ok so there isn’t another setting to enable auto on everytime? I thought they usually remember the settings after Exiting the vehicle.

We have a car seat and booster back there and the 3rd row vents turn on every time. It must be some combo of weight and seatbelt. I actually wish they wouldn’t turn on now since it blows cold air. In the summer it’s nice that they turn on.

I wonder if it is keying off the seat belts being clicked. I have a seat belt extender, If I get a chance I’ll plug it in and test it.

We had passengers in the third row today and had to turn it back on every single time.

Yes. Lexus GX470 and LX570 along with some previous and future versions have an additional HVAC unit that runs the back of the car. Multi-Zone multi HVAC systems.

I'm pretty sure large Audi/VW/Porsche probably have 2 unit along with maybe BMW for the largest SUV.
