At $0.04/kWh when charging during off-peak times, we pay less per mile to recharge than a Toyota Prius pays per mile at the cheapest gas station in my city.

(5.5 cents per mile for a Prius at 57 MPG at $3.19/gal versus 2 cents per mile at 4 cents per kWh at 2.0 mi/kWh.)

You need to add a solar option. My solar covers the home charging for my Rivian so day to day is free, the only time I pay is if I take it on a trip.

If you can live with a city car, then you should buy a small EV. Compare the R1T to a Ram TRX if you desire a larger vehicle. Car and driver tested the TRX at 13mpg on the highway.

Very true, if you compare it to other larger luxury SUVs is is definitely less expensive to drive.

Come join us in Sacramento, CA! For EVs, it's only $0.1275/kWh in the Summer and $0.1 /kWh in the Winter. And for $20 a month, the community owned utility (SMUD) will supply your electricity from 100% renewable resources.

Yep, my rough calculation was that "fueling" the R1S costs about 1/3 of fueling a comparable ICE vehicle. Just wish those savings weren't being offset by higher EV registration fees and insurance...

PG&E seems much worse than SCE.

Average CA gas price today in CA per AAA is 4.74, in Orange County it is 4.82, cheapest in OC is Costco and Sam’s Club at 4.07 if you want to wait in line. SCE TOU Prime rate you can get with an EV off peak is 23 cents.

If you get 20 miles per gallon gas is 20 cents a mile, if you get 2 miles per kWh the Rivian is 11.5 cents a mile.

If you have solar, it could be free, I have paid SCE a total of $12.04 in the 13 months I have had my R1S.

Saved money on energy to drive, especially since I charge at work.

But insurance is much higher, and will go through tires probably twice as fast as ICE vehicles. But I guess this poll is ignoring those costs.

I charge exclusively at EA now. No feasible provisions for charging at my rented condo and the garage is too small. I mean I could stick the nose in enough to slow charge, but then I would be blocking the "fire lane". All the retired nothing-to-do neighbors would have an aneurysm over that.

Even so, I'm still paying 40-50% of what I was paying for 18-22 gallons of diesel every week and a half. What is costing me more is the insurance premium. So, in that context, it's probably about even compared to the previous car. What I am happy about is not having to deal with various costs of BMW repairs as I approach and surpass 90k miles. No thank you, Hans!
