As I was washing my R1S yesterday, I noticed what appears to be corrosion directly beside the rear camera. Does anyone else know what this item is and has anyone else experienced something similar? Aside not looking great, is this anything to worry about?

I don’t believe that’s corrosion. When rinsing the back window that nozzle expels washer fluid to clean the rear camera. That simply looks to be dried washer fluid with maybe a little dirt/dust mixed in. You should be able to wipe it off with a damp rag.

I have the same on mine, though far less of it. I suspect that it is washer fluid that has "mineralized" on evaporation. The crusty stuff does not want to come off with even moderate scrubbing, so I'll have to try something chemical (like vinegar) to remove it - staying well away from the camera lens while doing so.

Thanks for all of your responses. Glad to hear it is just washer fluid and nothing to worry about. I'll try scrubbing it off and then will see if it continues to accumulate.

Yes, I am having this problem too. Takes quite a bit of work to get it off.

I have exactly the same condition and first noticed it literally on the day I took delivery of my R1S in early December 2023. Cleaned it up several times but it comes back. When I finally bring my vehicle in for installation of the spare tire in April (first available appointment scheduled in Dec. 2023!!), this issue and a couple of other minor items will be looked at.

The buildup is difficult to wash or scrub off. I’ve tried isopropyl alcohol, vinegar, quick detailer and hit it with an old toothbrush and I still can’t all of it off. Anyone have any ideas?

I brought LudicR1S in for this issue, they’re aware of it and couldn’t get all the crud off either. Just gotta deal.

Try a product called CLR (short for calcium, lime, and rust). I’ve used it to remove all types of scale build-up. It should be safe for the camera lens as well.

The back on the R1S creates a vacuum and always gets covered with dust. The dust is just collecting on the washer fluid that comes out when you use the rear washer. Clean it off more often before it builds up into a big mess.
