Yea ... that location is not going to help at supercharger locations. Plenty of time for them to move it to the rear driver side. Or put it on front passenger side as many people hate backing into spaces.
My wife hates backing into anything as the R2 or R3 will be her vehicle, I would appreciate they put it on the front right side.

It could be a compliance issue. In the EU, fuel filler doors are on the passenger side so that if you run out of gas and are filling from a portable container on the side of the road you are on the opposite side of the car from traffic. It could be that the regs don't differentiate between fuel and charging ports yet, and we know Rivian plans to export these to the EU.
Do Teslas sold in the EU have a charging port in a different location?

I wonder the reason for passenger rear.

I can see compelling arguments for driver rear or passenger front (Tesla Superchargers).

The current location of driver front is convenient for anything other than Superchargers. Passenger rear seems like the least convenient spot.

My home charging setup would be pretty difficult with passenger rear. Backing in is difficult with my driveway configuration, and I'd have to drop the power cord right through the garage doors line of travel. I'm sure I could find a solution, but not a super easy one.

Seems like the least likely position to have to step over the cable while charging.

Odd choice of locations being they want to use existing SC network, but plenty of time to change that anyway.

Same location as in the i3 FWIW...

Even if they weren't optimizing for tesla supercharger network...why have the cable on the passenger side? Me, as the driver, getting out of the car, why would I want to walk around the car to plug it in? Should be driver side, always. What clear advantage does putting it on the passenger side give?
If you live in the city and have to park on the street, passenger side is IDEAL bc you have to run a charging cable across the sidewalk to charge. I’m in DC and can’t make that work with my 1S without the cable sticking out into traffic

It DOESN'T matter where they put it, because regardless, a bunch of entitled people are going to come out of the woodwork and start complaining it doesn't work for THEM. One day it might dawn on people that they're not the center of the universe. Have any one of you ever thought "gee, that might be the PERFECT place to put it for some people's use case?" Do you even care?

Until then, if you want one of these vehicles, get one, and be happy you have one. Splitting hairs over where they put a charge port shouldn't make or break your attitude towards the vehicle, and if it does, then go buy something else...

Yeeesh. There are so much bigger problems in this world... and yet here we are.

I think I understand why, that's where Tesla puts it. So you have to remember that maybe because of that weird parking position if you go into a Tesla charger you take up two spots. I could be totally wrong
Nope
