Why do you need to see the vehicle location? It's not a Tesla, it's not like it's going to self-drive away and hide from you. My R1S is always exactly where I parked it.

Am I missing something?. You can find the location from the APP.

Exactly use the search and post on the many existing threads on this subject. As a 2022 truck owner this forum used to be invaluable, less so these days.

Out of curiosity, is it faster to use a manual shortcut then to use the widget?

These are the shortcuts I created on my iPhone 14Pro.
I push the icon and it does what it says. There are more things they can do, but these are the ones I use all the time.

the Tesla we own doesn't have an app so I can't compare App Differences.

It does sound like the OP here got used to the UI of the Tesla App and likes it however, this isn't Tesla and it will have use philosophies for the App. Less than 24 hours of ownership isn't enough time to get used to this particular UI as it takes about three weeks to develop new habits. Give it time and you'll get used to it and be able to navigate through the App IU pretty intuitively.

On the widget (iPhone) you only get 4 options (from what I can see). Since I have this folder along with the shortcuts it is easier for me to pick what I want. The icons tell me what I want to do.

The only one I use the most of the shortcuts is the FRUNK opening.

ok, maybe I didn't understand what the OP was asking. All I do is OPEN the APP.....scroll down to LOCATION and pick it. It will pop up with "Use Apple Maps", "Use Google Maps", "Use Waze Maps". I don't think it can get any easier. Does it track it while someone is driving it?....I will have to test that when my wife drives it. I do know that when truck is moving it says that it is.

The Rivian "Location" feature is really a "Help me get to where I left my car" feature. This could probably have been worded differently to make it clearer, but the purpose is to NAVIGATE you to where your car is parked.

So Rivian lets you choose (one time or always) which app you want to use to NAVIGATE to your car. Rivian does not force you to use any specific app to navigate. Then the Rivian app delegates the navigation to the app you select.

So if you choose Google Maps for example, you will see that when it brings up the map it is actually showing you walking directions to your vehicle, and NOT simply a GPS location for your vehicle.

It seems to me that if you want to track the GPS position of your vehicle at any time there are many ways to do that. You don't need the Rivian app for that. The Rivian app is not trying to solve that problem - it is just trying to help you find your vehicle when you come out of a restaurant or a venue and don't remember where you parked. The Rivian app does that pretty well.

That would be the only time I would want to know the location is when I park it and want to get back to it (concert, restaurant, amusement park etc).

I guess in the meantime you can get an Apple tag and put it somewhere on the vehicle and use your phone, but like you said, it would be nice to have it added to the app.
