Looks like Rivian is Testing a New Driver + Module as it was recently tested at the FCC. THE AEM (Autonomy Experience Module) can only be interpreted as Driver+ based off the hardware, protocols, and testing information from the FCC. RJ also mentioned new hardware coming soon for this so it all makes sense.

What is it exactly? If it needs "new hardware" will it be available for the R1?

Just get whatever hardware comparable to Tesla, and license it from Tesla .
And give consumers the option of paying for monthly subscription, just like superchargers. Why spend billions of dollars trying to catch up? Rivian just doesn’t have the resources to compete in AI software

They might do it, but there are downsides too. You can't make money if you're routinely paying your competition for the right to use one of your key product features. That gives up control of the feature and it's guaranteed that the feature will cost you more than it costs your competitor, forever.

Gross, Tesla's autopilot is pretty bad. The fact you have to keep torque on the steering wheel is absurd and can be downright dangerous when it unexepectedly disengages.

Mobile eyes, Microsoft, and others are also developing autonomous driving softwares. BMW is about to launch its own proprietary level 3. There is no way Rivian can compete against them. Rivian just doesn’t have the money. I think the trend will be such that automakers will put in hardwares, and consumers would get to choose the software. That’s how you can get around “ anti trust “ laws etc. unfortunately, profit margin is in software, and Rivian is stuck in low margin business.

I'm not at all expecting it to be possible, but I would gladly pay for a retrofit to new hardware if it meant better Driver+ performance and a longer support period. The current implementation is good enough to live with forever, but...

Just try for yourself V12.3, and rewrite your post. Prejudice is never a good thing. I think V13 will be classified as level 4. Remains to be seen.

No...stay away as far as possible from that dumpster fire.
I drove V12.3 for 10 days. Already drives better than my wife at night. Needs some minor touch ups, and soon will be level 4. AI is changing the world rapidly. Either you get on it or left behind with your prejudice.

According to Out of Spec review V12 is still level 2. Going to skip right over level 3 to level 4? I've test driven Tesla vehicles numerous times and the only one I would want is the X. I don't give a rats ass about self driving. Until I can drink 6 beers go out in my vehicle and say "home" what good is it? If I have to pay attention my hand might as well be on the wheel.

If and when Tesla software/hardware advances to the point that they can actually successfully release the robotaxis, it should then possible to do what you want in a consumer vehicle.

I just drive myself. Can people just fucking pay attention to the task at hand already? "Drives better than my wife at night" is not exactly something I would trust with my life.

Not surprised to hear you are breaking the law and putting everyone else on the road in danger.
