Why has my R1S become a sales huckster?

I’ve had my Rivian for nearly a year with very few complaints. However, lately, when I use Alexa to find channels or music, it’s become a continual effort of the R1s trying to sell me stuff, mostly it’s music subscriptions.

coming to work today it tried to sell me the newest release of B.B. King, tried to get me to sign up for a three month free subscription to Amazon Music and told me that one of my favorite bands has a new release I can purchase.

Seriously, the last thing I need is being spammed driving to work by my truck

I wonder if Rivian has any control over this, I would think that is all Amazon's doing and there probably isn't anything Rivian can do about it.
Rivian says they do their own software to "control the experience" - they need to step up their control.

This is all Amazon. You can, and should, turn off notifications in the truck. Then, go change all of your ad settings in your Amazon account.

Just set a different music app to be default and it will stop trying to sell you and just play whatever you picked. At least that worked for me with Spotify.

The integration into Spotify with it is pretty smooth though it kills me that it mispronounces my name.

Heard if you set your Alexa language to English (Canadian) it'll stop doing all the weird extras. I haven't tested it.

I've been using Alexa for the past year and I haven't haven't had any of these issues. I would check your settings in your Alexa app. I use tidal for music. I have never had Alexa try to sell me anything either at home or in the car. If you have no music subscription that may be why.

Maybe try asking Alexa not to offer you a subscription anymore?

I use Alexa regularly and it hasn’t ever tried to sell me anything. I echo what others have said - there must be something in your Alexa settings that’s causing it.

If I ask Alexa to play something on Amazon Music (I have Prime, but I don't have the Premium music subscription), it sometimes asks me if I want to subscribe. I tell it that I don't, and then it is done asking me, for awhile.

Man, that sucks. I think these AI assistants are too invasive. Hopefully you can turn it off. Although it did tell you about that new album drop, so it wasn’t all bad. ?

I’d hate to see a future where we finally have autonomous vehicles, but they become driving ads with us as captive audiences.

Alexa has indeed been losing money and there was talk of charging for Alexa usage. She is also always trying to sell me stuff or have me sign up for various subscriptions. I usually access Siri through my Apple Watch or iPhone. I’d much rather prefer google assistant native to the car.

Just edit your preferences - if Alexa is suggesting things for you it's because you're allowing her to do that ...
