Mechanical-sounding Clicking from Accelerator Pedal

I have a two-week old Rivian R1S, Dual Motor, Large Battery pack, with around 700 miles on it. I don't recall this being an issue when I first picked it up, but over the last week I've noticed that there's often a mechanical-sounding "clicking" noise when the accelerator pedal is depressed or, more frequently, when released. I can both hear the sound and feel the sound through my foot on the pedal. Sometimes it will also occur when I'm applying constant pressure to the pedal or even when the self-steering cruise control is active and I'm not pressing anything at all. It almost sounds like a small switch is being thrown, and, if not from the pedal, the noise is definitely coming from somewhere around that region.

Oddly, it won't normally happen for the first few minutes of the drive, but will start happening after maybe a mile. It's pretty frequent, happening every minute or two.

Has anyone else experienced this? Was there a fix? What did the fix entail? I'm nearly two hours from a service center and really don't want to deal with this, so I'm just trying to gauge if I'm going to get any relief after investing, at least, a day into this. I've tried searching other threads and have seen some posts about clicking, but I'm not sure whether or not my car's clicking is the same.

Mine has done this since day 1. Almost 2 years and 23,000 miles in.

For me this started when the software release that had the Braking assist came out. Or maybe I noticed it then... when over about 40 mph when I lift the throtle, there is a click I can hear and feel in the pedal. It only happens 1/3 throttle or more, but not when shallower.

It sounds to me like it is a solenoid of some sort, probably preparing to apply the hydraulic brakes smoothly if it needs to blend. It's not been cold, so I think this is just a preparation, but not actually blending.

This happens to my R1T as well. I submitted a service ticket and they had looked at it/test drove my truck. They had mentioned this is normal operation of the rear drive unit disconnects engaging and disengaging actively. Performed other diagnostics and found no issues.

After reading bhlackey's post about it starting after the break assist update, I experimented by disabling breaking assist. The problem IMMEDIATELY stopped. Assuming you're okay without breaking assist, that appears to be the solution.

Do you mean emergency braking assist? I turned that off and I still have pedal clicks.

No, I mean “Regenerative Breaking Assist” under the “Driver+” subheading. Just be warned—the car, when too cold or when highly charged, isn’t going to break as much as you expect when you take your foot off the gas.

Darn I already had that disabled. The clicking is driving me insane.

Mine does this with the braking assist on as well. I determined it’s from the pin in the assembly that connects the brake bar to the pedal. The slop in the connection causes the noise. Turning off braking assist does solve it. Refitting a new pin or better connection style would also solve it

Found this thread because it just started happening to me on a road trip yesterday while the R1S is in cruise control. Someone on Reddit mentioned their pins for the betal were in backwards and the SC changed them and it fixed it.

Anyone else find a fix?

I had this start happening on my R1T when Rivian replaced the accelerater pedal for a recall. They claimed they couldn't reproduce it, but when we pushed, they installed a new pedal and the noise went away. At the time I assumed we just got unlucky with a slightly defective replacement during the recall work. Sounds like it is a more widespread quality issue with the new part they developed to address the issue with the original part that had to be recalled.

Pretty sure this is the regenerative brake assist they are all talking about....not really a "safety feature". Maybe it could be argued for people who don't understand regen braking and when it limits, I suppose.
